I just did want to say that I've dealt with them before with sealed boxes. I've know another canuck who has dealt with them with no fail.

I've yet to read anything past the first post. Just need to mention that this is just my bad lack of judgement. And I'm trying quite hard to fix this for him.

      Back to PMs now, Tommy.

Alright. Now that ive found a computer and have relaxed a tad, im hoping to finally have this resolved.

So how this originally started was that i found a retailer that i frequent for deals. its one ive used before and is known to a few canucks to sell regular stock as well as some rarer stock. all have been bought with decent confidence. not only that but ive bought from them with confidence. sealed boxes, ones that have smoked quite well and comparable to original release smokes. a user on this site can attest to that but i wont name any names. he saw no problem from me ordering from them and was a decently seasoned smoker as well. boxes went to him first and everything seemed well and good.

There was no reason for me to distrust them and offered Tommy a box split on the 1966s easily. i did this in hopes for him to find a decent box of his `white whales`for a decent price. on top of that, it was from what i thought was a reputable retailer up until a bit ago. so we went ahead with the buy.
he was skeptical of the price and so was i. therefore, i emailed the retailer who mentioned he had 2 boxes opened and 8 sealed. i requested to buy a sealed box which came up to the price listed and i saw no reason to deny the vailidity as it was confirmed before by me and other people.

Ahead went the transaction. The box arrived easily without a hitch and stayed in the humidor until i managed to visit Tommy. I went into a financial pickel and needed to give up 3 more cigars to him so our box split went from 5:5 to 8:2. they seemed to be well until i saw the box in person and realised the bands were off. theyre also not the 1966s ive smelled or seen prior - they were 100% fakes. no question about it. the boxes were real but the cigars were definitelz fakes.
this was followed by the long winded conversation but we just went out for a smoke hoping to deal with it later. later came and i didnt hear much back until today. i had finally settled down with wifi with a Cohiba 2000 piramide in a shoppe in Zurich and just got the PM stream from Tommy who was (understandably) upset. Its something i had to put on the backburner and really message Tommy to reassure him of my intentions. I was not out to scam him and i was scammed myself
1 cigar and many conversations later, im hoping to have Tommy try those 1966s. i am scraping together favours from a decent amount of the BotLs i know trying very hard to get the 1966s for him as quickly as possible.

This is my fault that ive used a source like this for so long. but now comes the even bigger pain of telling those people whom ive recommended that this is not a good source. my main concern is getting those 1966s to tommy and the secondary source is to go back on my word for those people who trust me in my sources. itll be hard for me and others to stomach the fact that they and i have been misled this entire time or even something like this could even potentially happen.

Its something i need to take a look at again as im not sure the scope of the damage yet. Im hoping this long winded post has cleared up the situation as a whole and how it happened in the first place...

One thing i didnt mention was my late response. Normally (all of you knowing me), id respond ot this as quickly as possible. Id respond to all of your PMs as quickly as possible. But i am on Vacation with limited time to respond to messages let alone look at the forum. I wouldve been the first one to respond to both Tommy and this thread if it was another way.

But when im in different countries, i cant be on the forum 24/7 like i am at home or at work... This is why i didnt respond as well as i couldve.

For all this and everything above, im sorry for the trouble ive caused everyone. Only thing i can do now is unrecommend some people and get Tommy his blasted 1966s from some more reliable sources...........

Jeremy, everything you have said above is true and correct from my perspective. You're explanation on loss of contact makes perfect sense to me now and I'm actually rather embarrassed that I didn't think of that. Thank you for sorting this out, Manuel is a prick and you are a gent who got stung on a well intentioned deal. I'll smoke one of these out of interest if that's cool or send them to you intact. Whatever you prefer. It looks like some of the chaps want to see them as a learning experience but its your call.

Sometime a public disput can be a...how you say...."learning moment?"

Your canuck friends are probably the proud owners of a mix of fakes and legit cigars.

Your "rarer stock" is probably counterfeit, although not necessarily. It's precisely the "not necessarily" that allows Manuel/XXX to continue his scam.

As I said before, this vendor is the most famous fakes peddler in Europe. First time I heard about him was in 2002 when people realized that most of the '00, '01 ELs sold by XXX were fakes.

As for purchasing "sealed boxes", that's probably the worst thing you can do in this hobby. Rob Ayala told it again recently at FoH, and he simply refuses to ship sealed boxes. Only malicious or incompetent vendors accept to do so.

But I think they only do that because that's what incompetent buyers, and I'm sorry to say it, usually from North America look for and prefer. The reasoning being I'm guess is that if it's sealed it can't have been tampered with. What might be inside .... mould, beetles, plugs, tears or otherwise is unimportant.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
