Smoking Cigars Outdoors in Public

So asking those nearby if they object before you light up is one thing but what really annoys me is when you specifically chose a spot away from everyone else then halfway through your amazing smoke, some people come and sit down next to you (even though there are other seats & tables further away) & start to give you the looks & snide comments & it's frankly it's usually the women. In those incidents I don't move.

As long as there aren't kids (including mine) nearby or people eating, i'm good to go.

If I'm smoking outside and it's not at home, I generally find a park bench or go to a cafe/pub smoking area.
I always pick somewhere that has the least potential for bother.
Tbh, if people don't like where I'm smoking, they must be arseholes, so they can fuck off and sit somewhere else.

Would agree entirely that away from kids and food, and downwind is the way to go!

Haven't really been bothered by anyone when out and about. I only really smoke in beer gardens in the local pubs and there aren't any children around there after 8 on the evening. I occasionally have a smoke at work if I know I have an hour outside. I had a smoke one day in Inveraray when an older couple asked to join me on the bench I was sitting on, I offered to sit downwind, they both said they didn't mind. Turned out the man was a former navy man and used to enjoy a cigar in his youth, we had a very pleasant conversation about among other things cigars.

This has happened a few times to me... But literally 1 hour ago... This was my vue, ambiance and general state of mind!



Someone asked if "they could have a go" -NO!!

9/10 times this is met with as much attitude as people who ask you to smoke somewhere else!!

500 years from now smoking will be ancient history and people will marvel at their primitive origins. When I smoke in public it's away from people unless it's the pub & I don't go to family pubs when I'm out to smoke.

I've not yet had any vocal negativity smoking cigars in public. Some admiring glances and some slightly snide ones, but generally, unless kids or lots of people (the latter just makes me anxious and can ruin a smoke), and I'm in an okay-to-smoke area, holier than thou types can sling their proverbial hooks.

Oh I've had that several times, I only made the mistake once, never again- mind you it was almost worth it to see him inhale a big lung full before he turned green and lost a lung, his mates found it funny too

I have so many analogies, examples and other ways of assertively saying no but I always start with "I don't want to sound rude but" which then makes me angry at myself... Then if I receive any hostility I get more annoyed at myself!!

I just say 'nope' or 'no thanks' and turn my back ! It helps that I'm an angry looking 6'2" red head
I once said I'm gonna do you a favor n say no but that got me into having to explain n I can't be arsed with that when I'm grabbing some me time- I don't smoke when I have the wife n kids with me

Haha! I suspect some of us (i.e., ) should be "downwind" whether we're smoking or not.

I am quite surprised by how often people tell me the smoke of the cigar smells fantastic and they really like it. Having said that, I would still try to avoid having people sit downwind from me as much as I can.
