Just thought I'd let anyone know who's interested, PC GAMER UK is handing out beta access to PS2 in this months edition so pick it up quick. For anyone in the US PC GAMER is doing the same, so get your copy now if!
Dude I have no idea what you just said! Do you know how old that makes me feel??!!
No problem, Planetside 2 is an MMOFPS (Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter), which means you run around with friends in squads and platoons shooting others. Here is a link that will explain all, Planetside 2, you can apply for the Beta testing of the game on that site also.
A Beta key is much the same as the product code key you entered for your copy of windows. PC GAMER gives them out in their magazine and you enter it on the site, giving you priority when the Beta testing of the game starts next month.
Planetside 2 will be 100% free to download and play so there are no excuses not to try it out if you have a PC (and can wrangle the missus into allowing it).
For further info here is Totalbiscuit (A well known gamer and reviewer) at E3 (the biggest gaming event of the year) at the Planetside 2 booths with Margaret Krohn (A Planetside 2 developer) going over the game PS2 at E3.
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask, and I'm 37 BTW so I'm no spring chicken myself! I'll be doing Galaxy drops into TR and NC territory with my squad mates, a good Habanos, a dram of Balvenie and plenty of AMMO!
I had heard lots of rumors of Planetside 2 but didn't realise that it was this close.....oh well there goes my life.
Time to rally the troops.
The first one was awesome in it's prime, only game where you could wake up in the morning bleary eyed and reminisce about storming a fortification the night before.
Can't wait for this. I'm a PC Gamer subscriber so got my key a few weeks ago. E3 footage looked great!
I beta tested the first one too and played it to death. Im still a big gamer at 37 and host a Teamspeak 3 and minecraft server for a bunch if friends. We are mostly older gamers too and have played together for ages. I imagine we will grow up at some point, but there's no rush
Should have added what im playing really: Eve Online, World of Tanks, League of Legends, Dungeon Defenders, Minecraft, Dawn of War 2 (love Last Stand!), Sins of a Solar Empire. Plus a lot more occasional stuff!
Currently waiting for PS2, Torchlight 2, Mechwarrior Online, End of Nations. (and Diablo 3 once its down to a sensible price)
In the past I played (MMO wise) SWG (Pre-CU), EVE and Darkfall. Tried alot of others, the last one I tried was SWtOR which I got for xmas. I only maintain the sub as my son plays it now, I'm hoping to get him on to PS2 with me so that he can power level my soldier
I usually play with a bunch of other middle aged guys, we tend to get a kick out of victimising teenagers online ... don't knock it until you've tried it!
Can't wait for Dust 514 to come out on PS3, though I can;t use the PS3 controller, but have managed to hook up a KB and Mouse which seems to work pretty well.
Here's a link to the latest PS2 trailer CLICK, the beta should begin sometime next month (am guessing) but I'm not sure when it'll release, probably before xmas.
I bored quickly of SWtOR and most of the new generation of theme park MMORPGs, no matter how slick they are and how great the voice acting is it always seems to amount to little more than kill x amount of Y. Or the old favourite of got to mr A, who sends you to Mr B, who sends you to mr C, who sends you to mr D, who tells you to kill x amount of y then do him a Fedex to mr E!
MMORPGs were all about interacting with other people online, working in teams to overcome problems set by designers, building a community of friends and fighting it out for fun with other groups of people. Too many have devolved into an online single player game that you pay a subscription for and have a cash shop rammed down your throat *cough* The Secret World *cough*.
PS2 seems to do a good job of cutting the crap and delivering a player vs player game minus the mindless single player grind.
As for Dust, I believe they put that onto the PS3 so as not to cut into the PC subscriber base for EVE. Besides EVE has been a pay to win for many years now *cough* PLEX *cough* and I'm not sure if they can be trusted after certain incidents involving dev corruption *cough* t20 *cough*.
Damn this, 10 years of gaming has turned me into such a mean cynical bastard!
I've played far far too many MMO's. Ultima Online (the reason i met my wife!), Asherons call, Anarchy Online, SWG (best mmo ever till they tried to turn it into WoW), DAOC, Everquest 1 and 2, WoW, Tabula Rasa, Eve, to name a few
Took a 3 year break from Eve Yeti but i've been back on and off for a couple of months now just running a few missions in my new Tengu and doing a spot of mining
Dust 514 looks good but i also struggle with the PS3 controller and mostly my PS3 gets used for dvd blueray and netflix these days. Interesting about the keyboard and mouse though!
