So another lancero to try and this one comes courtesy of Diesel. I'm still not completely sold on this maker and this one didn't do anything to persuade me. The Diesel Lancero comes in at 7.5" x40 and is a very dark and rustic looking maduro, almost into oscuro country. It felt very firm and slightly lumpy and the wrapper smelt sweet and earthy with a pepperiness that was irritating my nose when I sniffed it. Once cut the cold draw was easy and tasted earthy and slightly salty.
The first inch was woody and full of the aforementioned pepper. The burn remained even throughout and the ash dropped every half inch.
The second inch began to develop a creaminess with that pepper still dominating everything.
At the half way point the flavours began to mellow and it became mild and woody with a hint of espresso coming through and the pepper completely disappeared. Odd though that the smoke output increased and I find I had to take it away from my face after every draw or become enveloped in a cloud of smoke!
Into the final third and a complete about turn as the taste developed a strong and unpleasant mineral flavour, I didn't like that at all and left it pretty soon after.
Diesel's tasting notes described this as having chocolate flavours but I didn't get any of that at all.
Now its finished I'm left with a slight nicotine buzz so I'm glad I accompanied it with Coke and chocolate.
If peppery is your thing then this may be for you but for me Cohiba still make the best lancero I've smoked.
