  • Cigar Cutters Through Airport Security

Just wondering really what peoples experiences are. Had no issues for ages until lost one flying back from Belfast to UK. I deliberately took one of my "plastic" ones to make it looks as little like a weapon as possible.

Always put it in my hold luggage, stashed in a pocket in pair of jeans or something similar, never had any issues, always take my cheap cutter with me just in case though

Usually worst case scenario is you lose the cutter, so bring something cheap and cheerful.

When I flew to Malaysia recently I just brought all my cigars pre-cut. I knew I wouldn't be smoking anything else than my stash and they aren't very forgiving on tobacco allowance, so I didn't wanna double dip on risk

I’ve got a punch on my key ring, never been an issue

Exact same here I’d be wary of a decent cutter getting taken but a simple punch I think will always be fine. I’ve also never had a jet lighter taken but I only take cheap ones in place

Ditto, had a couple of questions about it but just demonstrated it by pushing into the palm of my had & saying, 'look harmless!'

It's the lack of consistency that gets me !!!!!!

Over the years I've lost several lighters and cutters to airport security, generally in the far east. I normally put them I'm my hold luggage, but on occasion have forgotten. Cutters and jet lighters are considered offensive weapons, don't ask me why, by some countries security. Never had any issue at UK security though.

Do people take Zippos away with them without any issues?

I just take disposable lighter’s, 1 per person, I’ll get the wife to carry one so I’ve got 2, but to be fair you can usually buy lighter’s at your destination no problem, I your a gambling man just carry it through in your pocket, if you loose it, bad luck, if it’s worth money I wouldn’t risk it, supposedly only jet flames with gas in are banned🤷🏻

That's the problem... "supposedly". I'll probably take a disposable as you suggest and use it to light a ceder spill.

Took mine (fairly standard and cheap straight cutter) through security about 100 times, and then all of a sudden it was highlighted on a scan and taken.... so agree if you are taking one, take a cheap one.... I've moved to a punch now for travel
