  • Big barsteward suggestions...

Okay people, I need your help!

I've decided to run a series of reviews on my new blog looking for the best 'World Cup cigar' - in other words, one which will last from kick-off to full-time. Now, I figure that I need to pick out some cigars which last the best part of two hours (allowing for injury time and half-time). I'm thinking that Churchill sized sticks might be just a little shy of the required time, so, does anyone have some suggestions of really long smokes (preferably reasonably good) - or, indeed, some slow burning Churchills?

I'd like to throw in at least one non-Cuban too. Knowing how our State-side cousins like to do everything bigger than the rest of us, I figure that there may well be a few sizeable non-Cubans aimed at the American market.

I'm thinking that the VR Don Alejandro could be a definite contender, as well as the Partagas Lusitanias. (This could be quite pricey...)

I reckon the Cuaba Diademas might be just a shade too big however...

(I'm also planning a show-down between Cohiba and Trinidad to find the ultimate super-premium Havana... - again, quite pricey)

The Diademas was going to be my first suggestion.

Have never smoked one, but Montecristo A was the first thing that came to my mind.

For those who prefer quite mild cigars there is the Sancho Panza Sanchos, which is the same size as the Monte A, but quite a bit cheaper. I personally i think that the double corona is probably your cigar size for this. Partagas Lusitanias, Hoyo Double Corona?

One of the cains is huge, both length and ring gauge. I have the habano version in my humi but I'm on the road at the moment, I'm sure one of our US botl will know the name

Yep, I'm with you there, double coronas seem to be the ideal choice. Was hoping to avoid the Monte A (it'll be pricey enough doing this as it is ). Hadn't thought of the Sanchos though - could be a very good shout.

Of course it goes without saying you could also smoke a second cigar.

Usually, if I'm going to smoke while watching a sporting event two Toro sized sticks gets me through the match and post game reports.

But where's the fun in that - I'd have none of this frantic scrabbling to find cigars of the right size, and I'd lose an interesting topic to discuss.
