I think it's fine to be a member of several forums (I am) so there should be no issues.

However considering the history, slander and general nastiness that went on it is quite reasonable for Deano and the mods to not wish people to use their forum to suggest new members join another forum that is pretty anti-UKCF. I cannot believe any person genuinely thinks that is unreasonable. If you do try running a forum for a while

The other place chooses to be a closed forum so cannot attract new members easily, that is their choice, all power to them but the flip side is they don't get new people searching for cigars on Google joining them.

One also has to consider that over on the other board is (I think) the only place on the web where this board is still routinely slagged off ('we do things different here', 'you wouldn't be allowed to have this discussion on the 'other place tm' etc.). I could go on but all the guys here who are members there know what I am talking about. There is also still slander published about this nonsense conspiracy that this forum is some kind of front for the UK tobacco industry, just a laughable premiss and very sad to me.

Personally I have no problems with anyone joining any other forum, I am dissapointed at some of the fine botl's who have not (as far as I can see) ever mentioned a single word of defence of this forum when such silly comments (as mentioned above) are made .

I really don't want to start a whole new discussion but I am going to suggest this. If you guys who are members of both forums (and I have met, emailed, exchanged sticks with many of you over the years) truly respect UKCF (and the members here) please extend that respect on the other place. It is a two-way street and things will all be a lot better when a little respect is shown both ways.

I put my hands-up, I have been guilty of provoking and making provoking comments but I am not the only one. I will no more, I wonder how many people will join me?

A few points that I think are reasonable:
1. Lets all be considerate and make this the last discussion on the topic
2. Other place, grow and be happy but please consider to stop using a hatred/anger/conspiracy of this place as some kind of mantra/driving energy. I know a lot of you guys and you are better than that.
3. I would suggest it is very disrespectful to use UKCF to actively encourage members to join another forum.
4. If I see a forum I respect being attacked unjustly elsewhere I will speak up otherwise I am not being honest (either with myself or other people).
5. Forums are tricky places. Plain txt is a poor method of communication. Mods will not always agree or be consistent. Members will come, go and sometimes will be banned (some will think it is fair and just, others won't).
6. We are not the first on-line community (even within the cigar world) to go through this kind of situation and we wont be the last.

Let's not make a whole aggressive thread here, if anyone wants to discuss my points please pm me so we can discuss like gentlemen.

a few things occur to me while reading this thread, how goes a closed forum grow? i guess they have to beg borrow or steal from other forums.
How can a closed forum be independent? if you have to be invited the chances are that forum would only want like minded members.(i wonder what would happen if monkey or cohiba turned up on the other board?)
and finely when i vist some ones house i respect the rules of the house even if you do not agree with them this is deanos house you may not agree with all the rules but you should respect them

Lol beg borrow or steal? implies that forum members are belongings, not friends. There is no stealing, no exclusivity, only inviting to a place where you can be among like minded friends. Honestly guys get over it people use different forums. BFD.

As for the second part, yes absolutely. if anyone, as i do, want to remain on these forums they should follow deanos rules. agreed. I dont use PMS here, i dont use chat here. I just come to read and learn about cigars. i dont always like what I read, but I try my damndest not to interject too much.
