But past the 'uselessness' aspect that you explained, why are you against it? Surely there's more of a reason than simply you not using it?

I can't see any need for it to be honest. You can only chat when you and the respondent are both on so why not just exchange posts which are then searchable by other members through the search function.

feelings aside, back to the point:
that's my time to post what TJ and his willies call 'tweets' and have chats about people's day and other things that aren't much relevant to people's posts. people don't care about my day and the chatbox is the best place to call that information out. it's not searchable for a reason - it's not related to cigars or discussion on that issue. threads have titles for a reason like how newspaper articles have titles for a reason. if it didn't obey a pretext, why does it belong in the pretext?

Re-read what I wrote Jeremy. I said that in a chatbox on a different forum to which you don't have access you have been slagged off in the past. That is not an attack on you but an example of what a chatbox is frequently used for.

Other way around... when you mentioned someone slagging off someone else and mentioned 'very often, it is X', not sure if it was the receiver or sender of the message. a lot on my mind right now recently, John. sorry for that.

Anyway, I see your point. Perhaps other gents can chip in on this. On our UKCF google plus page, we had a good example of a conversation I had with Andrew (GH) and felt like I got to know him better. Am hoping the chat box can be used for things like that instead.
Been trying to keep in contact with Sean as his baby is being birthed but PMs make it a nightmare to have heavy ended conversations. I contact him via email to ask all the time, now.

Was hoping something like the chatbox could replicate that on the smaller scale in the moment without breaking down too hard. We're a smaller community. Communism only works in (perhaps even benefits a) smaller communities (or communes. Hence the name) so perhaps the chatbox is the same. I hope it's the same. And if we still limit to that 75 ct, I think it will be a very gentle forum chatting option.

Its up to us to not do any of the above. I get spam email through all the time. Apparently I am related to the Nigerian royal family, Still think its a good idea to have my email account and just use a bit of common sense with what I reply to rather than not have one casue some people are dodge.
