Public Wi-Fi

Whilst on my lunch break today, my phone (iPhone 5) was connected via O2 wi-fi and Tapatalk popped up a screen asking me for my password (forgot to get a screenshot with the error message).

My question is this - is this a quirk of Tapatalk or something in the setup of the forum? This has happened on another provider of free wi-fi (not BT or The Cloud). It's not really an issue, just something I'm curious about.

I've had it before on Tapa with free Wifi in our local pub, they restrict certain traffic and I got an error message trying to log in. Got home (which is 100 yards down the road) and logged in straight away.
