MD, this is not a permanent state, (although it appears to be more frequent than it was). It's just a question of working out the rules with some people who can't appreciate that things have to change in order to work within the law of the land.

I suspect we are getting near the end of this phase now and then things will calm down.

The upheavals are getting smaller and less frequent and hopefully everything will settle down soon.

Then we will be more like the Good Life than Jeremy Kyle (TJ won't get that one either!)

Dean, honest question that I'm a bit confused about.. can we talk about overseas buying when tax isn't avoided? For example sometimes I have seen threads that talk of foreign buying yet mention paying full tax, I don't see what's wrong with this?

On a general note I think this bickering is pathetic, there should be no inter forum wars or antagonism. I suggest an open giant herf with all members of both forums invited, much of this tension arises from misinterpretation of what is a nonhuman communication system. I think we should incorporate other things such as Skype etc as well as the herf and will soon find that no one actually has a problem with each other!

Another observation: change all the mods titles to "moderator" cos as it stands with the current titles it looks like an old boys club with lots of in jokes.

Sure, you can talk about going over to a store and buying stuff - you're allowed legally to bring back 50 cigars etc tax free. This is why it's allowed - it's clearly legal.

For not the same reasons Eddie, I have suggested something similar recently. Personalising titles was an option granted some years back. It, in all fairness, is not unusual in the cyber world for mods to have personalised titles, but I understand how many things in text may be misinterpreted. I can honestly say that I am not aware of any in jokes, and not all mods have made changes.

I'm not aware either, but this thread was for ideas to make the forum better / friendly to new members. Titles such as "super mod watching you" is a title I'd expect in the little red book.

I think Sam might be referring to online sales where tobacco is declared on the customs form and duty paid to the post office along with VAT their "fee". That would be a true grey import - i.e. not by the official UK distributor.

The lad brings up a good point (no, not the one under Ray Jay's hat ).

One of the first rules of "brainstorming" is to allow all ideas to flow - good or bad - without any judgment. This tends to encourage more ideas; keep the lights burning brigher, so to speak , especially from our less talkative members

I think anytime you have a select, sub-grouping, you have the appearance of elitisim or "old boys club," as you put it. And as you probably know, we do have a section where only the modulators can meet to discuss forum business. But having said that, I don't believe there is a sense of snobbery going on among the mods. Hell, I don't even like half of 'em.

But more to your point, yes I agree that a title or two may be a bit "over the top" and a wee bit frightening to some; one or two even frighten me! So perhaps some title modification would be helpful, but to make them all the same is too regimented for my taste and takes some of the personality out of the so-called mods.

That's what I think anyway.

i have been reading this thread over the last few days and plenty of good suggestions, cigarsam your idea of a mixed hearf is a good one and has been done to some extent at the prince last year, i have also smoked with a few members from the other forum at different venues and like 99.9% of the people i have met through cigars are top guys, how you get the two forums to start communicating will not be easy but maybe some one like Alf could grease the wheels.
with regards the criticism of the mods i guess if you dont know of the things that have gone on in the past you may find some of there responses quite harsh but i have also smoked with a few of them and you could not find a nicer bunch of guys, i think we also have to remember that they are also human and can have bad days like the rest of us and may regret some of there posts

As to improving the forum i would like to see Dean (or some one we all nominate) doing a video review every so often, maybe we could send cigars to him,it could be done in a certain style to make it stand apart from others


Now maybe a bit more of the wall, i used to enjoy reading BigT post about smoking down at Ajays and other places,i know he can be a bit of a dick some times but he does have a certain writting style that made you want to be there,Dean i dont know if you could have a word with Trev about doing a blog

It's not grey if you actually do this (as far as I know), but everyone will just state that's what they're doing and it'll just go back to being a board about overseas buying.
