Macs nd the OS they run on..?

About 1.5 years ago or more. Why would it work now? My system is exactly the same..

The drivers get updated with each new release so as hardware gets older it gets better supported.

I could always knock up something like this?

All right , a week now with osx ..
It is really worry free! Everything works like a charm, but hey is it made to work with the hardware!
the unix system is stable enough, I havent even rebooted it yet after all the updates.
Lacking from software choice/support/whatever u call it!
and the thing i love is the suspending option, havent seen anythign faster, just close it and open it , all cool and ready to work in less than 2secs!

Ah at last a subject that I'm not at noob status at!

I'm a Mac techie (hate the word analyst) and consultant to the publishing sector, in a previous incarnation I was a designer working on Macs.
PLEASE let me or someone redesign the forum headers! I'll do it for free, that font aaaaarrrggghhh. (sorry I'm a font Nazi)

Anyhoo, you can run Mac OS X on virtually any 'modern' PC hardware (I'm typing this on a Compaq Mini 311 running OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard, which also runs Windows 7 and a couple of flavours of Linux)

But make sure the hardware you use has already been used by others to run OS X first, they'll have done all the groundwork on getting all the peripheral hardware and system stuff to work, so that you don't have to.

If you can't find the answer there, look for a forum for the hardware you want to use, they'll have ton's of advice on how to do it.

The customised OS X disk images to do this are "allegedly" freely available on them interwebs, I don't have PM yet (I think) but would be happy to discuss if I'm not breaking forum rules.

Despite what I do for a living I'm not a undiluted MacHead though, I've always said,
If you set up a design company using only PC's you're a ploon.
If you set up a small business doing everyday office tasks using Mac's you're a ploon too.

Macs are great at some things, colour management being the big one in publishing.

PC's are great at being great cheap office workhorses. (and killer Games machines)

It's very easy to mix and match PC's and Mac's in any kind of environment though.

Very good points - and techie stuff aside so far as application goes thats always been my feeling. I've always half wanted a mac because you can't beat them on style (sony vaios try hard though), particularly those top end mac books with aluminium covers. And of course windows always seems to have been a (inferior) copy of the mac os from the start. But, and it is a huge but, you don't half pay a premium for this style - 50% more for a like to like specced laptop for example, hence me staying on the PC side of the fence (and probably always will)...
