I know it's a standard 'IT Crowd' joke, but it does seem to be IT's default response....to anything.

Who Built That Thing?
I'm back lads. Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried se?or serious "disk" method first, but it still doesn't go past the Starting Windows screen. So now I'm going to reboot with the disk in place and enter safe mode.
Wish me luck!
UPDATE: So far, in safe mode it scrolls for a few seconds then stops and asks me to "please wait." But I don't think it should take more than a few minutes to enter "safe mode" and so far it's been about 10 minutes frozen in place.

May be worth a physical inspection. Dont know if this goes beyond your ability but I would now:- Switch off and unplug power
- Open the case and physically inspect for any boards or connectors not correctly fitted.
- Remove and refit the RAM
- Put cover back on
- Disconnect all usb devices except the keyboard
- Try to boot
- If fails agian try a new keyboard
Something as simple as a faulty keyboard could possibly cause the problem described.Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

Naw, I don't mind getting my hands dirty. I built this PC with a little help from se?or serious.
Deano, , how do I reboot from the disk drive? I force turn off the computer, put the disc in and turn it on. Goes straight to the start up window where it stops.sigpicVaya con Dios, Amigos! - don TJ and the Coros

Sounds like you need a Knoppix USB key. Get that data saved and start from scratch.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

When it starts there should be a message to press something to get into BIOS or setup or such like. It may be space, or f8 or escape. Just keep pressing it, then it will go to the setup. Don't change anything apart from the boot order. Save and restart, should work then.
Also as someone said above, unplug everything that isn't needed from the computer. The new charity auction: http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthr...lighter-raffle

Brink of Defeat!
Well lads, I've tried most of the suggested fixes, including a physical inspection and removing and refitting the RAM. No luck. If I could get it to boot from the DVD drive with the Windows 7 set-up disc, I may have a chance, but it still won't go into "safe" mode or "bios" and it will not boot past the "Windows Starting" screen. The flag logo just keep pulsating but goes nowhere.

If you are getting into the windows bit you have missed the BIOS bit. It is the first thing that happens. Turn it on and keep pressing the relevant key. If you don't know the right button then try delete, if not luck try escape, if no luck try the f keys in order. The new charity auction: http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthr...lighter-raffle
