We Don't Need No Stinkin' PC!
Chapter 2:
So my local tech was able to recover the data from my SSD and mirror an image on another drive, which is good. The bad part he put it on a 256 GB Crucial MX100, which is not powerful enough for my purposes. So I took that drive and transferred/copied the date to a Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB drive ( that's right, the same SSD that went bad, only bigger). I used a StarTech Standalone Duplicator Dock for this purpose and it worked fine.
One problem, however - the 500 GB SSD shows up as a "Local 250 GB Solid State Disk" in "My Computer." That's odd, I thought, so I went to "Disk Management" and found that the new SSD was divided into 3 sections as shown below
I don't want the disk divided up like this. I want the "unallocated" portion and the "local 250 GB" portion to be in the same space.
So here's the question: Any idea how to combine the two sections?
I still have the Crucial disk with the data, so if I have to start over, that's no problem. I should note that I did not do anything to the new Samsung SSD (such as formatting) before I transferred the data.

As an update, I just noticed that the first and second partitions (System Reserve and Local) are exactly the same size as the source data on the Crucial SSD. So it appears that it copied an image of the crucial disk on the larger Samsung SSD and partitioned off the remainder of the the space on the Samsung as "unallocate."
I'm hoping there is a way to combine these two sections into one, becauser the unallocated portion does not show up in "my computer."

So, I guess the party's over - unless you have any questions! I believe CMo and I can hang around a bit to answer any of your questions or hear your comments.

Of course this thread should not be interesting to a techo dunce like me - but it is! A bit like those program's in Norway that just look at a field for three hours.
I think I need help.I'm sure there are greater things in life than a fine cigar ........... but right now I can't think what they might be.

I'm glad Mo could make your software hardware.
And Mo! Ask for the 06 piramides instead! I heard the sublimes are sinking harder than TJ's PC.
