  • Hello Folks, from Tropical Perthshire.

A recent holiday in Cuba has re-sparked my ancient interest in cigars which began more than 40 years ago when my Dad was given one in a silver tube for Christmas. He smoked it on Boxing Day and it made him ill! But I never forgot that amazing aroma. Despite my pleadings he never smoked one again, prefering his usual Senior Service- pity really, 'cos they killed him in the end!
Anyway, on my 18th birthday I entered the hallowed premises of Charles Rattray, Tobacconists, on Perth High Street (sadly long gone) where I purchased two of those silver tubes- an H Upmann and an RyJ. Unfortunately while I was there I was seduced by a bundle of Burma cheroots (Pwe no.2?), and mainly due to financial restrictions I smoked those until they no longer could be found on these shores. (I recently sourced some here, but they just ain't the same). But hey, those two Cubans were the business.
Over the years, I have dabbled in the Dark Side. Yes- I have a pipe collection and a fair few tobaccos to go with them! Oh, and I like snuff a lot and now possess virtually every type known to man. In the end though, nothing beats a good Cuban cigar, and at the moment in the humidor you will find in varying numbers: Trinidad Reyes; Hoyo short Robustos and Epicure no.2's; Monte no.2's; Bolivar Tubos 2's; Diplo no.2's (oh, how I mourn the passing of no.5's!); RyJ Juliettas and short Churchills; Jose Piedra Brevas; Cohiba Siglo II's and I have some aged sticks arriving soon .
I found this forum just before I went to Cuba, and found some really useful info., so I thought I'd join in the hope that you all can keep me straying from the true path!
    Regards.
