Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening for whenever you read this,
The names Mo, I've been following the site for a couple of months now and thought I'd up my game and sign up.
Firstly I have to say this forum has a lot and I mean a lot of useful for info for people new to the world of cigars so we to your knowledge and hope that you guys continue to on for many years to come.
Now a little bit about me...... *big breath*
My first ever experience of cigars was a couple of cheapo cigars I found at my local off licence Costello's I think there called machine made and alright but my judgement of alright is a bit , following which were some cafe creme's mainly due to the fact that I like the tin, and then some flavoured Phillies from a store called Mystic Head Shop (If you saw some of the stuff they sold you'd the name Mental Health problems would be a more apt name). Also I was a bit too young (16 I think) to fully appreciate the flavours and such,....
Mo get will you
"Alright alright sorry I started reminiscing there for a moment"
Right so I properly got into cigars this year in August, following a long overdue holiday to Turkey which was good but there were so many of those problems that we call "little things" that built up and actually ruined the whole holiday but as I grew up in Britain I've learn to grin and bear it much like the queue at the post office or the bank where you always manage to be behind the one person who wants to tell the poor soul behind the till their entire life story and then some.
Sorry I'm getting side tracked again, where was I ..... Oh yes .... Turkey.... right so on the return flight home whilst waiting for our plane to get ready for boarding I decided to take a wander round the duty free as you do, and I was looking around the tobacco section and picked myself some Golden V for the times I'd prefer some rollies and some Lucky Strikes which were blue and came in a limited edition tin. (I'd bought the normal red's a few years back on a holiday to Italy and quite liked the different taste and decided to get some more perhaps the purchase was for the memories more than anything) So I walked around a bit more smelling the men?s perfume...cough.....cough...I mean aftershave and saw a cigar section........
Cigars that?s a thought!!
I'd smoked some nasty cheap stuff back home and thought HEY I should get myself something nice. Also I overheard a conversation whilst looking at the selection on offer were a couple of dudes were talking about the one's I thought I'd give a try were pretty good. So based on the opinion of a completely random stranger I picked up a small 5 pack of Guantanamera Decimo's (Remember I didn't know ANYTHING at all about cigar's or brands, so don't disown me).
So I got back to blighty and back to the loverly East end of London and on the following weekend I went to the local park sat down and fired up one of those bad boys.
Straight away I knew they tasted like anything other than what I?ve smoked in the past and found it quite enjoyable. It was a warm summer?s afternoon the sun was shining the park was very quiet and it was just a relaxing affair.
Now some of you know at times it?s not just up to the cigar to make the experience enjoyable it?s the situation that has lead up to it, and for me the day so far was I have to say absolutely bliss. This video I think is the best explanation of it so you can understand what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_k_IukFdma0
So after work for a couple of evening?s doing some I started to read up on cigars, browsing what the interwebs had on offer and I got more and more interested and I liked what I was hearing.
The first thing all cigar smokers get is a cutter, as I was new to the world of cigars I didn?t exactly want to go out and buy an expensive fancy swanky ?100 cutter so I went with eBay to supply with a tool of the trade. Now what I didn?t double check was that the cutter and seller were in fact all the way round the other side of the world in Hong Kong, and it was just standard delivery.
So I waited a couple more weeks, during which I had another Guantanamera, and did some more reading up on the web.
Right so that?s my cutter sorted next step was a Humidor....
I read up on some homemade tupper-dors (tupperware) and had a rummage round the house and couldn?t find any L when I stumbled upon a wooden box we?ve had for a number of years, which I thought make do. So I thoroughly cleaned it out and constructed a makeshift humidification device which I thought was rather creative (made out of a deodorant spray lid stuffed with cotton balls and topped up with water)
After about 2 weeks since I ordered my cutter it finally arrived!!! YAY!! During my time of reading up on cigars I found out there?s a few specialist shops about so Oyster card (It?s a London thing, basically a travel card with a chip inside that you can put money on for those not familiar with them) in hand I jumped on the train and 30 mins later I was in West London and bought myself 2 Cuban cigars.
Romeo y Julieta - Petit Julietas
Montecristo - No.5
Sadly my memory isn?t that good and I can?t remember where exactly I bought them, but I picked them up after reading a few reviews that they were good starter cigars, and took them home happy with my purchase and put them in the makeshift humidor.
By this time it was Ramadan, (see Wikipedia) and I refrained from smoking during the whole month, which I was and am quite proud of, and promised myself that after the last day I would have a cigar as a sort of ... well a celebratory smoke.
So the day I?d been waiting for a whole month had finally came and I went to that park again and I can say it was enjoyable, sadly due to it being quite windy that day and some lighter malfunctions the burn was uneven.
So after learning from my mistakes and smoking a couple more sticks I?ve gone and bought myself a proper humidor, jet lighter I've learned one must have the right tools for the trade.
I can say I am very much enjoying the cigar life, and hope to learn a lot more and keep on smoking guys.
Cos' you know it makes sense like
