Hello to you all
My name is Steve, I'm 29 and from Aberdeen, Scotland. Given that I have no cigar smoking friends I'm glad to have stumbled upon this site for some in-depth cigar discussion.
I'm pretty new to cigars, I quit smoking cigarettes about 3 or 4 years ago but missed the ritual of going out for a smoke and having that quiet time by myself or with a friend. Time to relax and put the world to rights while watching plumes of smoke rise into the night sky... I do sound like a tit sometimes.
Anyway, I started reading up on cigars (as there is nothing I enjoy more than reasearching things to spend money on!) and have managed to try out a few over the past year. I started on Cubans like H. Upmann and Romeo y Julieta petite coronas but was surprised to find that my favourite cigars so far have not been cuban at all. I have had a couple of Oliva Serie G and thought they were great, I think I like maduro wrappers. I really want to try a Serie V when I can afford it and maybe a sungrown NUB as well.
So for the past year I've just been popping into the tobacconists, buying a stick and smoking it within a day or two. However a few weeks ago my wife surprised me with an Adorini Firenze Deluxe humidor for our first wedding anniversary so now I can collect and keep up to 75 cigars, as of yet there's nothing in it though . My advancement in cigar knowledge probably won't be a quick as I would like due to monetary restrictions (we have just moved house and we've just found out my wife is pregnant with our first child!) but hopefully I will be able to afford a stick or 2 every now and again.
While I am a cigar novice I do fancy myself as a bit of a whisky connoisseur, I've visited many a distillery and have a reasonable collection so hopefully I'll be able to come up with some decent pairings. I'd really like to get into rum as well (the darker the better) so I'm open to suggestions.
Due to an impending baby I don't want to smoke in the house so my only option is to smoke in the shed. I'd not really been into it since we moved in and had grand visions of turning it into a comfortable smoking haven. Those dreams were dashed when I opened it up to find it packed with crumbling flat-pack furniture and infested with hundreds of spiders. So I spent the whole of last weekend removing webs, chiseling egg sacks from the wall, plugging up holes with expanding foam and throwing about liberal amounts of disinfectant . What I am left with is the UK's cleanest shed with one bulb on the roof for a light and 2 canvas chairs. Not exactly a palace and it's still freezing cold, but at least it's somewhere I can smoke while it's windy and raining (which is most of the time in Aberdeen). I'll take a couple of pics sometime for anyone who wants to see.
Anyway, I feel like I've been rambling on for far too long now, so thanks for reading and I hope to get to know some of you soon.
