thanks for the unbelievably amounts of welcome messages. Didn't expect that tbh!
Well if you guys wouldn't mind I'd like to ask the first question straight into this hello thread.
Btw. I'm living in Greenock but not Scottish born and bred. Moved here over 2 years ago.
Well back to my question. As I want to try the whole cigar stuff which cigar should I go for as a starter? What do I need to get my first stick up and burning?
Quite curious and still a bit intimitaded. My great great father had oral cancer and smoked loads of cigarettes. I definitely want to try it tho!
If I could go out and about and get some stuff on Sunday...Unfortunately didn't read good reviews about the shop in Edinburgh. As I'm new to this I don't have a clue about all those cigars.
If we talked whisky no problem at all but cigars are a completely new area for me. Unfortunately another expensive hobby after Whisky, photography, RC-cars etc.
Damn it!

My advice - run away, and keep running... don't look back, don't stop for water... just keep running. This place can ruin your life - the cost of all those delicious cigars that you just have to try because everyone's saying they're great, the cost of travelling around the country to meet other members for herfs, the cost of... well, you get the idea.
I'm also a fan of whisky (am now my real ale club's 'Cigar and Spirits Officer' so have to keep a finger in all these pies - it's a hard life). I'm quite a fan of the peatier offerings, however, am currently enjoying some Tamdhu 18yo. What are your favourite and/or go-to whiskies?
As for ideal first cigars, I've jotted down a couple of ideas in your other thread.
nah life is too short to miss out on the fun it holds for me/us. Well I'm not an expert but I do like some of my whiskys. Most are indeed from Islay. Started off with a Dalwhinnie 15yr old before moving on to a Glenfarclas 10yr old. The 105 is nice as well as it gives you quite a lot of kick for the buck.
Tomintoul, Tamdhu, Balvenie, Glenlivet, the whole Ardbeg range, same for Laphroaig, the Lagavulin 16yr old, every Bowmore (especially the new 16yr old wine cask finish) is excellent.
Stopped counting the bottles (isn't meant to sound arrogant) but I bought quite a lot so yeah if I like cigars the same problem of not enough space and money might reoccur.
So I'm more the malt drinker and currently prefer sea malts. However, there is nothing wrong with a smooth whisky. Depending on the mood actually. One thing however will never cross my mind and that is delute it with 50/50 water or even ice! If I see someone doing it I'll kick his butt so hard that he wouldn't stop in a million years!
Thanks for your recommendations there. I will try to fly down to JJ Fox and have a look around. Guess the money spending has just started

Sorry I was distracted by the last post - Warm welcome - I am not a prolific poster but it is fun to get outraged and entertained with everyone else. Watch out for SLV60 - bad influence
I'm sure there are greater things in life than a fine cigar ........... but right now I can't think what they might be.
