Hi there everyone - nice to see a friendly forum giving out decent advice on the (taboo?) subject of cigars
I've only been smoking for a few years (in my mid thirties now) due to chronic asthma, but I find that a cigar every month or so, with a couple of extras thrown in at New Year, has done me no harm whatsoever.
My good lady is very fond of a smoke too, having had a few of mine over the years we've been together, we've always gone for (what we consider) a 'decent' cigar, normally following the retailers advice, and by sticking to fairly safe, known brands, spending about ?30 a time seems to have done us pretty well - not much by vintage standards but we've enjoye what we've had.
I was luck enough to get a cigar cutter, lighter, humidor and cigar case for xmas a couple of years ago, all of which have really added to the experience, but I now have a couple of questions. The humidor was out of use for a while and dried out a bit, and I can't seem to get it up the 'recommended' humidity - any advice there? I'm topping up with distilled water daily at the mo.
Also, whether rightly or wrongly, we stocked up on a few cigars from the now defunct Victoria Wine chain - now, we know this isn't a chain known for selling cigars, but when we saw cigars that are normally retailing at up to ?20 each, for between ?1 and ?5, we bought some. My question is this - should we remove from the individual tubes and place in humidor - or retain in tubes? Cigars are R&J, Montecristo and the like.
Many thanks,
Derek
