I finally found the introduction thread so that is what I shall do.

Hello all and thankyou for informing my cigar shopping over the recent months. I bet you had no idea how influential you are?

I've only been smoking cigars for 3 months now so am brand new at all of this. I bought some Romeo y Julieta tubos to celebrate the birth of my niece. They were a gift for the father but when the little one was already 2 days I late I decided to try one. Sat in the back garden slowly puffing away I found myself disgustingly relaxed an enveloped in a cloud of sweet sweet smoke. I enjoyed it so much that I bought more the next day and got the opportunity to smoke those too as the baby was even further overdue.

Since then I've tried a sampler of the 15 best selling Cubans from Havana Sampler and have been working my way through: a box of Partagas Serie D no. 4 (most are being left to age as I found them quite bitter), 50 cuban crafter cigars that came with my humidor, 25 Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story, 25 Arturo Fuente Hemingway best sellers, and the next box 25 858 Maduros.

Before discovering the wonders of internet bargain hunting and Swiss tax free zones I was picking up sticks at my local tobbaconist at incredible prices. Got to try a Serie P no. 2, Cuaba Exclusivos, Cuaba Generosos, Bolivar Belicosos Finos and a few others.

Have to say though, even though I've been through a fair few cubans over the last 3 months, I'm finding my pallate fits best with the Fuente Hemingways, particularly the short story. Must be the Cameroon wrapper!

Anyway, thanks for providing me with a wealth of information and I look forward to participating in cigar discussions in the future!

Definitely working hard (on fighting a suitable place to smoke!)

Outdoors is bloody freezing at the moment and indoors stinks out the House. Although, I've found that the smell from the non-cubans is considerably less offensive than the cuban cigars. Another reason I've been smoking Dominicans.

I was seriously dissapointed with the Partagas Serie D no. 4 though. Maybe they were just too young but they are so bitter. And yet they are so popular???

          Thanks for the welcomes.

Welcome! Perhaps the D4 is just not to your taste at this point in time? If you are new to smoking in general it's very possible.

Thanks Dave, I''ll keep it for a while in the humidor and see how they (and my taste) develop.

Noticed you are in Cardiff, me too. Ever use the Bear shop or do you prefer online shopping? The Bear shop's cigars are well rested and looked after but, for me, a little expensive. The shopkeeper is very friendly though and informative.

Generally online as the selection is better, but I agree they are in good condition from the Bear Shop. I've had some lovely Trini Reyes from there.

Which shopkeeper? There's quite an interesting selection of people in there.

Hi Morris and welcome to the forums

Just out of curiosity (OK, I admit it, I'm nosey!), which humidor did you go for from Cuban Crafters?
I only ask because that's where my first one came from.
I have to admit I'm currently tempted to buy another, they're so darn good looking.
Don't suppose you recall how much shipping was to the UK by any chance, mine was quite a few years ago now so I expect the costs have changed.

                  Anyhow, enjoy yourself.
P.S. 'Hot Sauce' - is that some kind of fetish?

Dave, I agree, an interesting selection of people in the Bear shop! The older guy with the moustache turned me onto the Boli Beli Finos and talked me through lighting them to get an even burn. The younger guy with the purple armband is not so talkative and tends to watch me like a hawk whilst I'm in the humidor room. He's always right behind me waiting for my choice. I need time to make a decision godamnit!

El Catador, hot sauce would be a painful fetish! Trust me, I know. I make my own and have often failed to clean my hands properly after preparing the chillis. That stuff is deadly. I often get it in my eyes but a friend who works in a restaraunt was once found with his bare arse in a handsink under the cold water tap. Apparently he chopped chillis just prior to "dropping the kids off at the pool.

                      I bought this one http://www.cubancrafters.com/products.php/item_id/331

I think the shipping was somewhere in the region of $45 which makes it $135 all in. Thats about ?80 for a decent sized humidor, 50 cigars (of the ones I got, 25 were mild robusto sized cigars, 25 were torpedos that could do with some more aging), humidifier and hygrometer, plus postage and packaging! Not bad at all when you look at prices for the UK sites that offer free delivery. Cuban crafters is still cheaper by a fair bit I think. Let me know which one you get. I'll be after a new one in the New Year.

                      Thanks

Thanks Monkey66. I had a lot of spare time on my hands while the better half was away. Now she is back I'm finding it hard to fit them in. I'm lucky to smoke 2-3 a week. Don't want to waste them by smoking them whilst walking the dog. Ours is a nutter and requires that I constantly throw a ball. Its not so relaxing and takes away from the cigar experience.

p.s. not smoked all of the Dominicans or Partagas yet. Better start puffing though because my humidor is full to the brim and I'm hungry for more!

speaking of humidors how is it pronounced? My girlfriend speaks spanish and insists it should be said:

                        OO-mid-orr

she says it like that whenever she is making fun of my new found love of cigars. Women!
