Hello all,
My name is Rick. But a lot of my close friends call me bear. It’s just a joke that has somehow led the name to stick. I live in central London and I am here for quite honourable reasons. I’m hoping that through this site I will make new friends and learn a little bit more.
I was introduced to this site, and the cigar world, through a friend; at first I wasn’t really interested. Because. Well, I’m young. I’m only 20. But since I’ve lost something valuable to me I felt an urge to infiltrate my way more and more into this world.
My grandfather used to be a cigar connoisseur, unfortunately he passed away 20 years ago as I was brought into this world. Until recently I would travel abroad regularly and stay in his house that was shared among the family. He had a beautiful study - It had a strong smoked scent embedded into the furnishings. I loved it there. However, my family has decided to sell the house and share the proceeds equally. Naturally as the property was sold the family was allowed to keep anything and everything they wanted. I unfortunately didn’t get any of his books or any of the furniture; not even one of his humidors.
My aunt however, saw fit to give me a box of photographs. His memories - in fact it was a box of his life. Imagery of what he did and what he did best. So I guess the main reason why I am here is because even though I never knew my grandfather he did leave an imprint in my life. And I feel the need to relive his life and experiences to keep the memory alive.
If I’m only ever half the man he ever was I know I would have experienced true happiness.
This isn’t meant to be a sob story and or sympathy plea. But I think there isn’t actually any better way of explaining the reasons as to what guided me here.
I hope I won’t be made to feel too out of place here. Although budget wise I already do. I know relatively little in terms of individual brands of cigars. But I do know my way around the history of cigars and tobacco in general.
On a different note I am very passionate about motoring and technology. I’m definitely a bit of a tech nerd. I love photography and I am mad about motorsport, but then again thats just motoring. Isn't it?
I hope I haven’t already worn out my welcome through this gargantuan post.
But if you’ve come this far and decide to post... well, then, thank you.
