Yeah don't worry about aging until you are buying boxes beyond what you can smoke. Or you are wealthy enough to buy aged cigars.

I've heard some folks around here have amassed more than they can smoke in a lifetime... There's often some odd and ends come up for sale. And boxes too that are well aged already.

You can occasionally find aged singles too in stores or online. JjFox and no6 Cavendish always have interesting aged boxes open. Our sponsor occasionally online.

If you go on a trip checkout local stores and airports. If you're into collecting buy a box. I bought a few boxes that ended up lasting me many years. I still have a few of those sticks now 15 years later.

Cigars are a long slow journey. Smoke slow. Try out lots. As long as you have storage sorted there's no stress.

I got to the stage I had a humidor full and slowed right down. Both collecting and smoking. Then I came back here. And now I'm ruined .. erm .. sorted [emoji38][emoji16]

So here we are. This is officially the end of Chapter One of my Cigar Journey.

We of course end the chapter with a Montecristo No. 4




Out of the three cigars I'll rate them in the following order for now... but Simon and others have told me I need to give the El Rey Del Mundo Demi Tasse more than one opportunity as the one I smoked was young and could do with a little more time aging in a humidor.

1) H. Upmann Half Corona (I absolutely loved this)
2) Montecristo No.4
3) El Rey Del Mundo Demi Tasse


Before I close chapter one of my journey, I have some questions I would love some help with.

• I noticed the Montecristo burned really unevenly and I had to touch it up with the lighter many times, I suspect this is a construction issue?

• I also noticed a burn hole slightly lower down the cigar, would this be due to a hollow point on the cigar? I can post photos if needed!

• It always seems the outer wrapper does not burn in sync with the cigar filling. It's almost like the filling is alight but the wrapper is not, I found this with both the Montecristo and the H. Upmann. Is this normal?

Glad you're enjoying it. Other more seasoned members will know more but after about 200 cigars in 2 years I've learned that: some cigars burn well, some badly. Even from the same box. They are hand made by different people in a factory - variation is inevitable. Bad burns are from construction issues yes. 95% of my cigars burns fine, perhaps the odd touch up but that's okay. If you buy from a shop you can get to you can return duds - I have done this with some plugged cigars I bought from Havana house in Hove. They did not quibble. This is an advantage of buying in store.

Speaking of variance I have had (an example) a sensational Quai d'Orsay 54, and an average one. Setting could play a part: one was on a beach apartment in the French riviera and one was in my shed in the rain. If you have a bad one maybe try another, but there are sooo many options to try first so no probs. If you really enjoy a cigar deffo buy more!

I'm no good with age. Someone recently did an aged vs new 2 same cigar sampler on here which I missed, I shall get the next one. But again see variances.

Luckily I like most cigars. Smoke as many as you can!

Sounds a great move, you're first official mini herf Max! I can only say sharing your smoke more than dbles the pleasure, just expect to re-light more often than usual! Amazing how much oyu can learn & different sticks you can try at such a meeting, hope iof comes off for both of you; let's see the pics!.
