Non-Smoker from Sunny London

Hello everyone,

It's a pleasure to finally have the opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Max, 29 from London.

I've been looking through the forum for a little while now and I'm keen to get started by trying a few cigars for non-smoking beginners.

About 5/6 years ago I was out with colleagues from work when a friend got me a Cohiba Siglo 2 to smoke and I remember enjoying the cigar and having a relaxing experience.

I'm not sure whether to ask you to post a few recommendations below, or whether I'll start a new post elsewhere..... help?!

As a fairly new cigar smoker myself, I'd recommend trying all sorts. I started with the bottom end of the scale on the budget stuff so I didn't spoil myself too early... I found the Avo Puritos and Camacho Machitos samplers on Cgars quite good as an introduction to the varying flavours you can get from different cigars.

Then pick up a couple of Cubans to compare them. Maybe start with some Petit Corona size while you find the sort of profile you like without overpowering with nicotine. Plus, they wont blow your budget if you're not keen on them.

Theres plenty of knowledge on here though, sure someone will be along with more recommendations on where to start [emoji106]

Welcome Max, I'm new to the forum but have a few years smoking experience, mainly Cuban. Everyone's tastes are very different and the usual advise is to start with lighter cigars and build up from there. I must say however that it wasn't until I started on stronger cigars, Partagas and Bolivar in particular, that I really started to understand what all the fuss was about. As far as specific recommendations:

- Por Larranaga. Both the Panetelas and Montecarlo are good starting points and neither is expensive. Their petite coronas have an excellent reputation when aged.
-Romeo and Julieta Mille Fleure. I also like the no.1
-Montecristo no 4. These are popular for a reason! When they are good they are fantastic but occasionally they can be surprisingly full bodied.
- San Cristobal el principe. A shorter smoke but good ones are full of cocoa/chocolate flavours. I love these.
I could go on and on and there are others here with far more knowledge and experience so I'm sure you'll get some better recommendations. It's a great forum btw, everyone is very helpful and friendly

Welcome aboard Max. Some good recommendations already. I'd echo Simon's Hoyo suggestion (especially the H-de-M Petit Robusto - always a good starter), and add the H Upmann Half Corona and Trini Reyas.

Slowly building a list of recommendations and then I will purchase 2/3 to try in the coming weeks

One very quick question. Can I purchase a cheapish cigar cutter to start with? Any recommendations up to ?20 will be fine. As for a lighting them, I'll use matches.
