Welcome to our small but loyal & friendly little group Rory. Cohiba's may indeed be the best Havana's (it's a matter of taste) but despite many deletions, the Habanos catalogue is still wide & there's lots of exploring to do. I like to keep my Cohiba's for high days & holidays, that way I can appreciate them more & smoke them little enough, so that they can age nicely & it doesn't get too expensive to stock them.

cohibas are quite distinct, but Upmann is a good tasty marca with a wide selection of vitolas to try. The Mag series are worth exploring, but so is the heart of regular production.

Well Trinidad's would be the next closest in quality & are a bit cheaper & medium, rather than full flavoured. You could try the Reyes, which is as cheap as you can find to enter into that class of Havana's. The Coloniales, slightly larger & has more depth IMHO.

On a different track, the trick with cigars when they make so many shapes, strengths & sizes is figuring out what cigar would fit the situations you find yourself wanting or have time for a smoke. E.G. a smaller, lighter smoke is great for the morning or perhaps after a light lunch; perhaps Hoyo's fill this space better than most. The Petit Hoyo is a 30 - 40min smoke, fine with just coffee even shortly after breakfast. The classic Epicure No2, 50-60mins, more suitable after lunch.

R&J make the whole range of Medium smokes but aren't as tasty as Monte's. A Monte No4 is a petit Corona & where many of us started smoking Havana's. I used to smoke these most of the time saving the few other cigars I had for more special occasions. Party Shorts are power wee bug*ers, especially as fresh as your likely to find them so even though it's small, try these first after a dinner when you don't have time for a larger cigar.

After dinner? Well you'll never go wrong with a piramide, Monte or Party No2's spring to mind. DC's have small following these days, not because they are not wonderful smokes (usually even better when well aged) but due to the time it takes to smoke them, most people just can't find 90 to 120mins in the evening, especially if your in company. If you have time on your own, then they can be a wonderful experience.

Mostly I'd say take your time, avoid boxes for as long as you can, packs of 3's or 5's are big enough until you have wider experience & once you get pm's you can start joining in some split buys & you'll be able to try things older than the usual UK stock, which is generally under a year old these days.
