Hi all...
yea at last I'm online... been reading this site for months but was unable to activate my membership to enable me to log in...thanks Deano for sorting it out....

So about me? live near Gatwick in Surrey, retired fire officer, had the cigar hobby for ohhhh about 40 years..I try and visit Cuba every year or two so that I can bring back cigars that I cannot afford in the UK..
What else do I do? support a London football team and go to all games home and away, enjoy holidays every year on Cunard cruise ships (they have lovely cigar rooms), I build luxury humidors from antique boxes and finally I try to be a good husband..
It would be good to know if there are any meetings in this part of the world where forum members meet for a drink and a puff...
Les

Hello and welcome Les!

I'm sure there will be some get-togethers with the south-east/London crowd at some point!

Do you sell your humis at all, or are they personal projects?

Hi, thanks for the welcome...I mostly make them for friends, always on the look out for suitable containers.. I'm currently hunting for a large chest suitable for aging my growing number of sticks.. some times people ask me to convert a worthless family box into something they can use......

Hi Les, not so far from you, just up the M23. I have a camphor wood chest bought in Singapore 50 years ago but I haven't opened it for a while and I suspect you might not be able to get the camphor out of it.

Hi, so is it your chest made from Camphorwood? if you got it in Singapore it probably is and is full of Linalool, a smelly oil......if so give up it will always smell like that....
If it's just a chest which has had mothballs in it
then try this...mix some water (at a ratio of 2 water to 1) apple cider or white vinegar... brush it over inside of the wood... let it dry .. then put in a container of baking soda, seal it and wait a week or two... can also work if some idiot has put some half smoked cigars back in a box and made it smell of ash..

Welcome to the forum. I'm in Crowborough, East Sussex. Hopefully the South East contingent of the forum can arrange a herf sometime soon.

I'm sure Sean's wife did that a few years ago to keep one safe for him . Incidentally I was in the smoking lounge of a cruise ship two years ago and watched an old American guy smoke half a cigar then clip off the lit end and pop the rest in his pocket for later. His jacket must have stunk.
