I'm an ex smoker been off the cigs for 3/4 years and taking up vaping helped me quit. One thing I never got around to doing was smoking some nice cigars. I would love to get some advice as I have no idea about what I should buy or try. I won't go back to smoking. But I do want to try a few cigars and see what the fuss is all about.

Welcome to the forum!
I only started smoking cigars a couple of years ago having never smoked anything before.
There are much more experienced guys than me on here who I'm sure will make some great suggestions. Meanwhile, as I seem to be on the 'graveyard watch' for the forum, I would say that, although I'm very happy with the stronger cigars now (Bolivar, Ramon Allones, Partagas etc), I did get an unwelcome nicotine rush the first time I smoked a fuller bodied cigar and stayed with the lighter/medium ones for a while. It may be different for you as a former smoker.
My starting cigars were- as for many - things like the H Upmann Half Corona (HUHC) and the Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Rebusto (about 20 mins and 40 mins smoking respectively, although it depends on your style).
The advice here is often around buying a size (vitola) like a half corona in different brands as these are a good size to enable you to get a sense of the flavours/strengths of the various offerings. Buying singles and then, say, 3s and 5s is best. Boxes come later unless you're really flush! A good humidor is important, but these aren't very expensive if you shop around and, in any event, many people keep their smokes (particularly as their collections of boxed cigars grow) in air-tight plastic boxes. Bovidar packs are easy and useful for the humidification process.
As to where to buy, if you're lucky enough to be near a good outlet, then that's good, but most people seem to buy on line and there are a large number of sites (including, most definitely, our sponsor!) that come recommended here; it's really a case of shopping around and keeping an eye out for offers.
I hope you enjoy yourself with your new hobby and on what is a very friendly forum.

Hello and welcome. I'm sure you'll get plenty of advise on smokes on here. But here is my tuppence worth, good milder smokes are Uppman coronas , most Hoyo, Romeo y Julieta Julieta 2 and 3's. Enjoy the journey.

Welcome to the UKCF. I will echo the advice to buy a selection of petit corona or maybe half Corona size in different brands - Upmann, RYJ, Montecristo and Hoyo de Monterey are all good places to start.
That said, my first sampler consisted of a few Bolivar tubos which I really loved, and they're considered 'strong' compared to Upmann et al.
