  • Hello! I'm new, from the Midlands

    Hello everyone!

Well, I'm new, so I thought I'd pop by here and say hi. I've been lurking for a while, and reading old threads while I set up my humidor again.

I toyed with cigar smoking a few years back, and sort of accidentally drifted out of the hobby, but I'm hoping to get back into it. I've re-seasoned my old humidor, and am currently trying to gently coax a few of my remaining, sad, dry, cuban corona samples back into life. I neglected them, and I feel suitably ashamed. They won't ever be first rate again, but ... well, you've got to try, haven't you?!

I've just taken delivery of my first ever 25-box of cubans - I went with a Montecristo 4, as I remember particularly enjoying the 5s, back in the day. Please tell me the excitement of opening a full box and surveying the glory within never goes away! The only problem is it feels sacriligious to take them out and place them in my display humidor, now!

The plan is to stock up my 120 count humidor, and then start storing boxes away for the future. I'm hoping to home in on a couple of "everyday" CCs at the cheaper end of the scale, and a few more special ones for special occasions. I think my next order is going to be a 25 box of Rafael Gonzales Perlas to try them out, and a couple of the R&J short Churchills - I've always wanted to try those.

Anyway, I hope I don't ask too many stupid questions, and I look forward to being part of this lovely forum

    All the best, from Birmingham.

(Oh. Yeah ... I'm from Birmingham. Sorry about that.... I don't have an accent. Promise.)

Imagine that! A newbie actually introducing himself in the correct forum....and NOT trying to sell us cigars from his dear old, departed pappy!

Well done, Simon_B, and welcome to the UKCF!

Welcome to our obsession Simon, would it not be better to try a few more singles before launching into buying a full box? Been to the Prince of Wales in Moseley yet? Very cigar friendly pub .

Goodness me, what a friendly bunch! Thank you!

Thank you for the welcome, TJ. As it happens, my dear old papa (God rest his soul ) had a lovely collection of "Montecristas". Definitely genuine. Even more valuable due to the misprint, apparently. I'm sure we can come to some arrangement once I have PM priviliges.....

Yes - singles would be the sensible thing to do, PeeJay. I historically have a bit of a problem with "sensible", though (see also: "Simon takes up woodwork", "Simon learns to fish"...), all of which goes some way to explain the state of my bank account.... But you're quite right. I'll do that.

Apologies for teetering perilously close to copyright breach of your name, Simon G. My lawyers assure me I'm OK, but I'd have done something different if I'd known. I hope it doesn't cause any confusion.

                        Welcome,
Depending of how are those old cigar, it may not be wise to have much expectations on them.
But it worths the experience of the time they will need to recover.

                            Welcome!

I'm very partial to a Raphael Gonzalez Perla and thoroughly recommend them. That said, I'd not turn down a Monte 4 or 5!

This is a great place, and I hope you find it useful, and fun.

                            Alex.
