Hi Everyone,

Thanks for letting me join the forum. I've been here about a week and have so far enjoyed looking around the various threads and even asked for help which received quick and friendly responses. So far so good.

Alex is my name and I've been smoking cigars for around two and a half years. I've gotten into it a bit more seriously in the past 6 months or so when I received a gift of a nice humidor from a friend who wanted to take an extended break from smoking.
Over that time my taste has changed from enjoying exclusively mild cigars to start with to enjoying the more full bodied.

According to PJ's definition I do not have a colleciton but rather a stash, in other words I buy cigars to smoke rather than to keep indefinitely and in order to allow variety usually buy with some friends. I'd be interested to learn how others buy theirs (keeping with the rules of the forum, of course).

My favourites include:
Partagas D4
Montecristo Open Master
Bolivar Belicosos Finos

I also started with a stash, but soon realised I'd need a bigger humidor for when I bought boxes of my favourites, and also allowing extra space for ageing a few cigars ~ as particular smokes with age smoke beautifully. Atb

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the welcome. What sort of size humidor did you move up to? The one I have is an Adorini Firenze and is rated at 75 capacity but this seems to be suggestive and perhaps wouldn't provide uniform humidification if it was full. Would you agree with this?

Aging of cigars is something I know little about but will perhaps soon have to learn as our little buying group has just ordered a box of Trinidad Reyes which a few reviews suggest aren't great right out of the box.

Welcome to the forum, the andorini Firenze you got is a decent size but will be full before you know it.
In your situation I would take the hygrometer and the hydrometer out to give you more room in the humidor
replace the hygrometer with a calibre V1 hygrometer and the hydrometer with boveda pouches whichever humidity you prefer.

As luck would have it, that's exactly what the previous owner has done before he gave it to me. I agree with your point about it being full quickly enough and bought the insert shelf only last week. I'm looking forward to filling it up

So you know what you more less like then...now it's time to collect lol...the easy part is to spend to your money lol...hard part to let them rest for months years.

I try and buy singles or affordable 10 boxes..but once you have PM privileges there are box splits available which opens your collection up quite nicely and gives you the ability try cigars your wouldn't have thought of trying or buying

Welcome onboard Poncho, sure your'll feel at home real soon, plenty of good advice available on here. For my 2 pennithworth, Keep your nice humi for ready smokes & get a coolidor/ scubador to hold any excess, boxes ect. Humi's just fill up far too too quickly.

I originally bought a 25ct humi for my stash.
But then upgraded to a 100ct. Packing a humidor to it's absolute max with cigars might not be the best idea to allow proper humidification IMO

I like the sound of what you're suggesting; it's great to try new cigars and better again if it can be done without having to fork out on an unknown box. It's one of the reasons I like to join with the offline friends I referred to as we each get a nice bit of variety when we buy together.

Interesting idea. I must admit I only heard of coolidors last week on here, for the first time so I need to do a bit of looking into them. For the time being with my living situation it's not practical to expand to anything other than a second tabletop style humidor. I'll see how I go with this Firenze for the foreseeable.
