  • Greetings from Bradford.

Hi my name's Mattie. I'm new to the world of cigar smoking but I've smoked on and off for years, usually an occasional social smoke when drinking with mates. This year I suffered my annus horribilis with relationship falling apart bereavements etc, so i hit the smokes again out of some form of desperation. The thing is with the Cigs they always seemed to give me a negative mindset as soon as i smoked one (possibly all the chemical preservatives, who knows.), maybe others can relate to this. I knew this was a pointless exercise so packed it in again. I knew my Stepfather had been smoking cigars and he was going through the same difficulties as me so i thought I'd cheer him up by buying him some cigars, spur of the moment type thing. Anyways ended up giving him a pack of Villiger, he duly offered me one from the box, i was a bit reluctant but took one and we smoked them. My reluctance stemmed from the negative effect cigs had on me, but i needn't have worried it was like an epiphany all of a sudden I had an immense sense of satisfaction and was seeing straight if that makes any sense whatsoever? A bit more research and a few more Cubans later and I'd discovered a new hobby, albeit an expensive one.
So that little journey has brought me here and it seems there's much more to this than meets the eye so I'll probably be tapping into people for knowledge every now and then.

Oh I forgot to mention I've been a fan of fine spirits since my mid twenties, my mates think I'm bonkers spending over ?100 on a bottle of whiskey or cognac but I suppose they just don't get it. Cheers

An excellent introduction Mattie, interesting and well written. Welcome to the obsession, financially it's all downhill from here but you'll make lots of friends if you stick around.

            Welcome to the forum.

It's always interesting hearing the road people take to this fine hobby, you'll fit right in here with whisky as a sideline as well.

Pull up a chair, pour a wee dram and spark up a puro.
