A Married 43 year old with 2 teenage Children here, entering into the world of Cigars for the first time, I have always been playing at Cigars and never really got it until now, previously I could be found 'Henri Winterman' in Gob after a round of Golf or a win on the Horses and thought I was some kind of 'Legend' for the 15 minute duration.
I have now discovered this world, joined a Cigar Monthly Club and tomorrow am off into Cambridge to purchase my first few Cigars, I have no idea what I am going to buy yet but am told that I should just buy a pen and a book and write them all down as I go along.
My price range is realistically up to about ?25 a Cigar a couple of times a week and the majority will be hoovering up all the value in between.

I can stretch to the odd 'elite' single a few times a year but that depends on if the Mrs wants the equivalent too or if the odd Yankee comes in ..lol

I look forward to you all educating me and sharing your experiences and perhaps pointing me in the right direction.

Morning bigsy, welcome to our little community. You'll find a lot of knowledge here and lots of people willing to share it. If you're allowing ?50 per week that's actually a pretty large budget. My advice is simple, try a lot ad variety and use your holidays to buy cheap!

With that budget, there are a LOT of good, aged and premium stock out there for you!!

Also, i'd highly recommend cancelling your postage of 'cigars of the month'. We as a forum will be much more adept in finding you perfect cigars for your ever growing humidors!!

I'm relatively new too- and I seriously envy your budget :-D
If you're going to Robert Graham's in Cambridge, be prepared that the prices for CC's are a lot higher than on their website (cgarsltd.co.uk ) But you can do a click and collect, where you can buy them online and pick them up from the shop. I bought 6 budget sticks from them the other day, which worked out ?5 more than had I done click and collect - might not sound like much more, but that was ?31 vs ?36 - So if you're spending a lot more per stick, I think the price difference will add up a lot quite quickly - and that's money that could buy you more CC's!
It's a lovely shop and the staff are very friendly. Shame it's 130 miles away!

Appreciate the Feedback, I will obviously stay close and learn as I go along, I wouldn't want to mislead anyone, when I said a couple of Cigars up to ?25 each I meant steadily as we go, I think if I invested in a box for ?750 I would get a suitcase thrown at me at this stage.. Ha Ha

I guess it's all going to depend on what you like/dislike flavour wise.
Lots to take on board:
cigar strength: mild, medium, strong (nicotine buzz)
smoking time: short/narrow cigars: 20-30mins, longer/thicker cigars: approx an hour+
flavours: spice, pepper, tobacco, burnt caramel, toast, dark espresso (everyone picks up on different notes)
Smoke: thick and creamy, light

Lots to take on board.
Best bet is to sample a few and stick to what you enjoy!

For me personally:
Behike 52: Mild to Medium, slightly woodsy, twangy caramel, thick creamy smoke. 1 hour smoking time (my fav smoke!)
Partagas Short: Medium to strong, spicy, toasty, dash of pepper. Nice volume of smoke. 30+ min smoking time.
Montecristo Open Junior: Mild and mellow. Lovely signature Montecristo aroma. 30min smoking time.
Hoyo Epicure No.1: Mild, mellow, light tobacco flavours, slight burnt caramel, easy-easy smoke. An hour smoking time.

Will do but right now it is sitting on a shelf in a shop waiting for my loving hands to embrace it.

Now is a good time to ask I suppose, does it have to be a super fandango all singing and dancing or is one for around the ?100 mark more than sufficient ? I don't envisage having more than 10 or 15 at any given time anyway.

As for only keeping 15 or so… pfffftttt!!
That was my thoughts when I started out…

If you travel abroad - you'll find the smokes can be ALOT cheaper,
hence you'll want to bring em back and will need space for them in the humi.
I wish I had started out with a bigger humi. Bare in mind, I only smoke during the
Spring/Summer/Autumn months, averaging one a week or fortnight (or sometimes longer).
So I get through on average approx 30 a year possibly...
