I don't keep a particularly detailed record like these guys..... Though reading this thread makes me feel like I should.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

And just to prove how useful having a record is my brother, who would never normally miss an opportunity to rip it out of me for doing stuff like that, was reading through it and commented on how cool it actually is to have a record and how interesting a read it is!
Edit - I also just realised I didn't welcome you - but hello and welcome!

The point many miss about detailed notes & a diary, is that when you have smoked 20-50 different vitolas you can remember most of the important details. What about when you have smoked over 200! And some you smoked over a decade ago & now your 40/50/60, memory not quite what it was? The other aspect is the eenjoyment you get from reading it all overthe yyes. It is a discipline & favors those who are used to keep a diary.
My fishing diaries go back to 1973, when I was 13yo. Although I started fishing at 7yo, earlier notes were put into the diary which was hand written & actual photos stuck in. Now I do it all on spreadsheets, covering details, total he's fished, fish caught, weather, venues, rods & bait/lures used. Record of each pike water fished, watwers listed in order of lbs caught, inc avge size, he's per lb, he's per fish, points for 6lb + fish etc. Main list in chronological order of pike caught & largest 22lb1580 to smallest 4oz. Best leaves totals, best for Belgium, NL, Scotland & Ireland.
After that keeping track of all cigars smoked & all those stashed into the Boli Cave & humid is a piece of cake. And if your thinking that I have too much time on my hands, only the briefest notes are made at home, all excel entries are made on the rig, which keep me amused in the evenings on the rig.Simon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

I keep a training log and have found that invaluable, so figured using the same approach here would come in handy.
So far for columns I have:
Maker, type, length, gauge, when smoked, how long it took, amount left (not very scientific), location, whether with food/drink etc, score out of 10, whether I would have it again (Yes, no, maybe), cost, vendor, thoughts.
I'm hoping I can use it to track my taste over time - and to try and make sure I can keep smoking great sticks!
(Plus I don't get out much and need something to occupy me in those quiet moments!).

Interestingly, I've just noticed that my two favourites so far were smoked with alcohol, whilst my least favourite were smoked without food or drink - coincidence?
Will have to try one of the former without a drink to see what I think. The only downside is that for comparison, the first came from a decent online vendor, whilst the next one's come from Asda.....

Simples, like a fishing record you could just keep a note of the conditions. Then you can start to see if there is a correlation of when you prefer certain sticks.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

So far my top two smokes are the Upmann half and Punch PC.
Tried the Trinidad Reyes, but it burned quite hot, so I wasn't a fan.
I'm still getting used to the nicotine hit!
Have some more sticks coming and have just ordered some lock & locks and boveda packs.
Now I just need to sort out a lighter (the decking's really windy and the matches just aren't working!).
I think I must be quite sad - I've set up a little spreadsheet so I can track what I've smoked, so that it can help guide me to others.
I'm loving it so far, just wish they weren't taxed so much!
Might have to have a little jolly over to the continent....
