  • Hi from Yorkshire!

    Hi all!
As far as Newbies go, I'm an ultra newbie in that I have never smoked before.
I'm the main carer for my daughter and as a result have had to knock wine/whiskey/brandy on the head, so have been looking for another hobby that would allow me to still be effective in my caring responsibilities.
I've toyed with cigars for a while, and finally took the plunge, ordering three from an online site.
Went with Arturo Fuente Short Story - Absolutely hated it. Second was an H Upmann Coronas Junior, which was quite lovely. And the third is a Punch Petit Coronations, which I'm looking forward to.
Also obtained a few more when I was in Cambridge the other day.

Am definitely open to any recommendations and am looking forward to being part of the forum and enjoying my new hobby!

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Hi mate, Im fairly new to the game aswell having only started 2 months ago. This forums pretty helpful even if it be searching old threads for the information/opinions you want. Ive probably got about 15 smokes under my belt so far, so very inexperienced but the best one Ive had, based on multiple great reviews was the Trinidad Reyes, not a massive smoke but not terrible expensive at ?8, that'd be my reccomendation.

            Welcome along mate.

I myself did enjoy the short story I had but it was the maduro.

These chaps will point you in the right direction for some great smokes. (your wallet may shrink a bit though)

Welcome man, whereabouts in the People's Republic are you? I lived in Leeds and Skipton for a little while a few years ago.

Glad you liked the H Upmann. The Short Story is something I like but that's the wonder of taste, you can never be wrong.

huh. these shorties have been garnishing a lot of attention recently...

try something longer when/if you can! H. Upmann Majestics and Regalis are easy on the budget and the palate
                        but nonetheless, welcome!

Been away - had a few nice smokes too
                          I'm near Selby/York.
So far my top two smokes are the Upmann half and Punch PC.
Tried the Trinidad Reyes, but it burned quite hot, so I wasn't a fan.
I'm still getting used to the nicotine hit!
Have some more sticks coming and have just ordered some lock & locks and boveda packs.
Now I just need to sort out a lighter (the decking's really windy and the matches just aren't working!).
I think I must be quite sad - I've set up a little spreadsheet so I can track what I've smoked, so that it can help guide me to others.
I'm loving it so far, just wish they weren't taxed so much!
Might have to have a little jolly over to the continent....

Hi Andrew & welcome onboard! Sounds like you have been taking good steps on the way to enjoying a range of cigars. As a medic I understand how difficult being a carer can be so I understand your need for a nonalcoholic release. Still there are some smokes that are really enhanced when matched with the right drink so perhaps you can try that one day when you have someone to cover you.
Lastly, writing & maintain a spreadsheet is perfectly normal behavour, don't let any of this lot put you off I think comparing your eearly notes will prove invaluableto you in the future; just wish I had earlier notes of my first Cubans, my spreadsheets (which as you may hear are fairly detailed ) goes back15yrs+.
