  • RE: Greetings from Geneva

    Howdy folks.

I currently live in Geneva Switzerland but hail from the wonderfully sunny Northwest riviera that is Blackpool.

I have been smoking Cigars since roughly Xmas time due to a huge influx of cigars as presents from clients at work. My little 50ct humidor was quickly over flowed so now I have a nice 150ct humidor but feel a wineador will soon be necessary.

Currently I have in my Humidor Partagas D4, Montecristo 2, Hoyo De Monterrey Petit Robusta, Cohiba Siglo 2's and a few other odds and sods.

As I still no very little about Cigars I hope you can point me in the right direction of some favourable smokes.

    Cheers

    Ras

      Welcome to the forum.

We already have one mad monk though

A big part of the fun with cigars is trying all the different brands, then learning what you like and dislike

Welcome onboard Ras, what a great place to start learning about cigars, you'd have kicked yourself if you had discovered them six weeks after returning

Hiya Ras! Great to have international BotLs around! they make up a key component of this forum...

what brings you to Geneva, though? do you do seasonals throughout the year (half year in UK, half year in CH) or have you moved there?

Will be heading to Der Schweiz (pas La Suisse ) in late August and will hope to catch your Megaherf. Let's pray i see you 'round

Hello to everyone especially the Northern folk it must be nice to be just coming out of hibernation

I came out here three years ago for work and am honestly looking forward to moving back to the UK (London in the next 6 weeks) now after a short stint in Dubai. Its going to sound terribly English but honestly its so uncivilized or too civilized depending on which way you look at things over here ie shops being shut on Sunday. Not to mention the prices with the exception of Cigars which seem to be half the UK rrp so I guess thats good. Fortunately when I come back to the UK I will be flying out nearly once every two weeks so I can still get some nice smokes.

I used to smoke cigarettes so since knocking that on the head I have replaced it with Cigar's took me a while to get used to the difference at first as I thought I was going to die from inhalation, silly me. When you have about 100 cigars looking at you and your coughing your lungs up its a daunting thought lol.

My missus works for a large tobacco company so I was never going to be able to avoid smoking it was just a case of replacing one habit with something a shed load better

My current cigars list in order which you may be able to advise some others to try for me : I "think" I like milder sweeter style cigars but am still figuring out. So any info gratefully gleaned.

                      1) Hoyo Epicure 2
                      2) Montecristo 2
                      3) Hoyo Peit Robusta
                      4) Partagas d4
                      5) Cohiba Siglo 2 (least fav out of my stock)
                      6) Punch Punch had two now. One I bought in Dubai and one in Boisdale London last week (This is my least fav by some way)

oh boy.... when you hit 75 posts, just watch all the PMs that'll come your way!

also, looking at your list, it's a nice standard one. Dip yourself into the Bolivar and H. Upmann stream which should get you nice and integrated with smaller marcas.
May i suggest the Bolivar Tubos No.2 and the H. Upmann Magnum 46? I may!? well i hope you will enjoy these sticks for the cheap and rewarding aspects that they'll return you

Thanks for the heads up I will have a butchers at those mentioned now. I am already looking at about 90 cigars in my collection (Not including the 50 Tueros that I was "gifted" by my other half ) give or take a few and thinking how on earth will i smoke them all and more importantly when is it a suitable time to acquire one of these.
