  • New to forum and new to cigars

Hi, I'm 31 and had never so much as taken a draw of a cigarette until I tried my first cigar last Friday, 18-Apr.

I had to work myself up to it so had a white Russian or two and then lit an H. Upmann Coronas Junior Tubed Cigar. It was much milder than I expected but I didn't get the great cigar smell I hoped for. When it got so short that the smoke was hot I really didn't enjoy it.

I tried my second cigar yesterday, a Montecristo Open Junior Tubed Cigar and this was much tastier and closer to the cigar smell I hoped for but again when it was short enough that the smoke was hot I really didn't enjoy it.

I would really appreciate your advice on cigars with a good flavour, the kind of smell you can enjoy again an hour later when you go back in the room and also if there is a way to have a cooler smoke near the end. Maybe a larger ring?

    Cheers

Hello and welcome to the forum. I would say try a Romeo and Juleita short Churchill or any of their tubed cigars. They are pretty mild but a good place to start from. If you are feeling brave then try a Partagas short.

yupp. same experience i've had with the Upmann CJs... they smell absolutely divine. taste on the other hand......

Try anything from Hoyo De Monterrey. They have quite a good selection that's little known to the public.

Hi and welcome! I'm gonna say get a Montecristo No.4 or Petit Edmundo. Like Mo said, take it slow.. You don't want it to heat up as you will lose the flavour. Honestly though, I rarely smoke the last half inch. Though some guys love that bit.

Torpedo shaped cigars can concentrate flavours too I find. The Oliva Serie G Belicoso is a great one to try!

Wow, thanks for such quick and full responses. Definitely sounds like I'm smoking too fast so guess I'll have to practice

It's payday on Friday so I'll try a few of your suggestions through May

                    Plus 1.

It's the smoke that got me hooked. Try having a drink with it this can help you pace yourself.

                    Welcome and enjoy.

                      Welcome to the forum!

I agree the Monte 4 is a good place to start, all Petit Corona are a good place to start to get an idea of the various brands, they're not too big and don't last too long

I normally say that the best place to start is just read through the tasting notes on the websites, or speak to someone in your local B&M and pick out the cigars that sound most interesting. The B&M is the best place as they'll know what questions to ask and can make proper recommendations!

And then your next step will be to pick up a humidor
