    hi mate, and welcome!
i do agree with the other sentiments. the Hoyo Epicure no. 2, H Upmann Magnum 46, and Diplomaticos no. 2 are all great smokes at an affordable price. most people start off with Romeo Y Julieta, Cohiba, or Montecristo which have their flaws too. i wish i was recommended Hoyo de Monterreys or H. Upmanns when i first started off. would've saved me a pretty penny that way whilst giving me a great choice in variety!!

Also, gents. Remember to use full names! he doesn't normally know the abbreviations as well as we do..... yet

        Welcome aboard!

Personally I'd try to avoid anything too big to begin with - try and get an idea of which brands you like the flavours of (and acclimatise a bit, especially if you're not a tabber anyway - a big cigar still knocks me for six occasionally).

It's not one of my favourites, but the suggestion of the Hoyo Epi 2 is not a bad shout. I'd also consider the H.Upmann Conni 1 (I think the H.Upmann brand is a great place to explore early on in your smoking career - and offers plenty to keep you going forever if you want). If you fancy trying some more Montes, then my favourite in their line-up is the Petit Edmundo - just about the only Monte (for my money) which is remotely consistent, and a nice smoke to boot (good vitola too, I like it).

i'd go dippy no.2. but that's just because most of the mag 46s i've had are kinda annoying. few from 08, few from 04, few new, and none really impressive. i'd probably love it if it was the first or fourth H Upmann i smoked.. but after the sir winnie, royal robusto, and especially mag 50, i really can't brag about it anymore.

dippy no. 2 for me surpasses the monte 2 under the right conditions. it's a great young stick. montecristo 2, i wouldn't smoke under 3 years of age and dippy 2 i wouldn't age for more than 3years. just not really worth it in my opinion when you have the monte 2 around.

but honestly, for a new smoker, you'll love either the dippy 2, monte 2, mag 46 or mag 50 at any age

The plan is just to smoke it on the day as I don't have a humidor so on that basis do I go for dippy or the h upmann ????

geez, i sounded like obama dodging the questions on drone strikes my apologies
as i said before, mag 46 and dippies would be amazing smokes both in their respect. i'd go for the dippy 2 honestly.. or if you don't mind the extra quid or 3, take the magnum 50 which i would choose over both those!

When your in robert graham buying your next sticks, pick up a Boveda humidity pack.

That way you can buy a few sticks and put them in a tupperware box to keep fresh.

For a new smoker, i always suggest the Hoyo range but the other two sticks that have been mentioned will be really good.

                    Enjoy the journey.

but of course! frequent concerts and a mate of mine is the nephew of the best friend of geddy lee. got a used guitar from him once

also, +1 on the boveda pack. i normally use those cheap little foam pucks, because they do the job for the lowest price
also remember that any plastic humidor needs some cedar. whether from an old box, cabinet, or strips from tubes, the more the better!! have it imitate the conditions of a regular humidor

hi again folks - decided to expand out a bit now for my next dip into the mad cigar world - got it down to 2 - either a H Upmann Mag 50 or a Partagas P 2 - what would be the best one to have first?
Also looking at a H Upmann Sir Winston as a real treat to have once in a while
