Hi guys,

Thought I would come and say hello. Should probably introduce myself... I'm Sam, at 22 I wouldn't be surprised if I'm amongst some of the younger members on the site. I've been smoking cigars for about a year or so but have recently started getting a bit more adventerous and learning more about cigars. I'm looking for some advice on some new cigars to try and I'm in need of a humidor but know nothing about them so will be after some advice, although the guides on here have been helpful so far! I will post in the relevant sections shortly

Personally I have two Adorini humidors that I'm very happy with, but there will be many people on here who are in a better position to give you advice.

In terms of which cigars to smoke, I always say just read up on different ones and try whichever one seems interesting, its all about personal choice, so the more you sample, the better!

I haven't tried that great a selection as of yet. Really wasn't to keen on the Cohiba Siglo IIs if I'm honest. I have found the Montecristo No. 4s are good for something quick although I'm on the look out for other to try. So far I'm really liking the H. Upmann Magnum 46s, I've had a few now and they never seem to fail to impress, but again I'm looking for others to try as theres so many out there!

Haha ironically it was my mum who bought me my first cigar! She brought some back when she went to Cuba!

Yeah, maybe one day I will give the Siglo another go but my first impressions weren't great.

Like most fine puros, when smoked to young (less than a year) they can be pretty disappointing, no matter how high others rate them.*

But know this, most high ratings pertain to puros one year and older. And from my own experience, this is doubly true for the Cohiba. This is likely why a certain so-called cigar magazine in the States (CA) always includes the box date for the Habanos they review. (Now, mi pappy, Pappy Coro claims he was the one who recommended CA include the box dates, but that was many years ago and a story for another time.)

So, the moral of the story? Determine the age of a stick before you stuff it in your mouth.

At least that's what don TJ would say.

Ahh I've been reading about the D4 and they sound popular and the uneven burn seems to be a bit of a trait. Think I'm going to have to order one to give it a go. When ordering singles is it best to buy tubed or are they fine otherwise?

To be honest I normally go for untubed ones, I am new to cigars as well, but my understanding is that the tubes are used to protect the cigar and keep humidity while being transport, and they are also good for ageing - if you go onto the Cuban Cigar Website (http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/info-packaging.htm) its got a lot of information on everything you'll want to know about Cuban cigars
