Greetings from a newbie

Hi there, my name is Simon. I began buying cigars 'seriously' around September last year.
I purchased some well known brands and wanted to build a small collection purely for special occasions.
However, my way of thinking was to try a few out first, before stocking up on cigars that I hadn't tried before.
And that's where it all went downhill You read reviews, you try one, you try another, and before you know it
you're smoking a cigar every other week trying to find a favourite...

One of the issues I've had with trying out numerous Cubans, is consistency.
Cigars I've enjoyed haven't yet been consistent for a second, third, or even fourth time round...

I had a Monty No.4 last night - which proved to be very enjoyable 2/3 through.
There were hints of butter on my tongue - which was a first.
I was drinking a rum and lemonade - and not sure if this played a part...

Cigars I've enjoyed to date:
H.Upmann Half Corona, Monty No.4, Wide Churchill, my first Cohiba Robusto, my first Secretos, my first petit Edmundo

Still in the humi to try:
Behike 52 (saving for my Birthday in July)
Lusitanias
Montecristo No.2

I can see that you have already found your second home amongst the paint tins. There is a stark irony here that many of us participate in, and it is one of enjoying one of symbols of high society in humble surroundings, i.e. a fine Havana in and amongst the garden tools.

I was sneaking a cigar in after a hard days DIY, without the Mrs knowing.
Although lately, if the Mrs is out and I dine alone - I try to sneak a smoke in afterward too!

Howdy!! You'll sure enjoy your stay here if you're willing to dish out money for singlets like those . Were they all bought at UK prices??

Methinks the piramides wasn't as good as it can be for a two reasons:
- you didn't age em for long
- your palate ain't as "developed" right now.
the piramides should be like the egyptian ones. old. that's what gives them their value!

The BHK on the other hand, can be smoked straight from the box. but give your palate some more experience before you enjoy the sure beaut of that stick wilya??

I've spent quite a bit (???) on sampling a lot of well known Cubans, and haven't really taken to many... (palette?)
They were all bought from UK, UK prices, single sticks and some double or triples - just to be sure.

Great advice with the Piramides.
After buying it, I only had this stored in the humi for approx 5 months.

My smoking history:
Was a casual cigarette smoker on and off from the age of 16 through to 22 or 23.
Sampled my first cigar around 8 or so years ago. It was a novelty purchase, my Brother passed his HGV test.
I then sampled another novelty cigar on my Brothers Stag Do , 2-years ago.
Only after getting married in August last year, did I think, "I didn't smoke a cigar for my wedding! I think I'll buy a few for special occasions"...
That's when I took cigars seriously, buying a humidor etc etc. Since then I've smoked and sampled around 30+ cigars.
I'm 33, just for the record.

Looking forward to sampling my BHK52 in early July

Damn those UK prices. If you're EVER going to buy boxes of those cigars you smoked/listed, get em in Cuba. The money you'll save from them will actually pay for your trip. Or actually, just take a quick viddy at our "cigar travel" page. It'll show you cheap places too

As for the BHK, I stand by my recommendation to wait a tad longer for the BHK. You might actually pick up on flavours more when you let your palate develop (and tongue. Methinks the tongue actually tastes more. But who am I to talk about biology? I'm just a simple chemist ). You'll also enjoy it much more on the scale when you've tried shite cigars and expanded your scale.
