  • Hello, hello!

    Hey everyone!

Having convinced deano last week that I'm not a bot or scammer, I figured I should post now introducing myself (and not to market kitchen refurbishments or whatever).

    Basically, Im a late twenties guy living in MK, I work a lot and in my free time I play ice hockey. Seems to be that I'm rarely taking a moment to just chill so after some thought I decided to try out the rather detailed world of cigars. So far I've tried two;

Guantanamera Cristales; took me an hour, quite a lot of flavour, reminded me of a sort of coffee taste.
Romeo y Julieta Churchills Tubos; took me an hour and 1/2, couldn't really taste much unless I took a big draw at which I got a kind of almondy flavour. Felt sick later on that evening though, presumably from taking such long draws!

From what I've read so far, I really need to work on my palette first to properly enjoy the cigars but so far I've been loving the ability to force myself a time-out and just enjoy the act of cigar smoking.

Could anyone please recommend good cigars to start off with? I don't as yet have a humidor so I've been avoiding the temptation to buy in bulk, instead sticking to the tubed ones. Please excuse any silly statements I've made so far, still learning
Beliefs are neat. Cherish them, but don't share them like they're the truth.

    Welcome!

The good news is that from Guantanamera the only way is up! I have only ever smoked one and it was the worse cigar I've ever smoked

As a fellow newbie I would recommend reading up about the different tastes, shapes and sizes out there and smoking anything you can get you hands on, a couple of my favourites so far are Monte 2 & 4, Fonseca KDT Kadete and RyJ Short Churchill, the NUBs and Oliva Serie G 😊

Hmmmmmm.. Alright so you're on the right track. One of my first cigars too. Cheap and not bad at the time. Wonder what your second one will be after that shite one you just had......

      Holy hott hell.
You're starting off with some high fooking standards. It's my favourite cigar for the price.

None the less, Welcome! Hope you'll enjoy expanding your palate!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on dipping your toe into the world of cigars

If you do not have a humidor then you can buy humi-pouches which will store cigars for about 12 weeks at the correct humidity.

If you find your getting a dizzy head from the larger smokes then a mild brand that may suit you is El Rey Del Mundo, also Juan Lopez or Ramon Allones are a reasonable price too.

Welcome! Look into hoyo de monterrey and romeo y julieta for nice mild smokes.

Most cigar retailer websites tell you how strong they are.

Welcome! Finally made it! I'm sure you'll find plenty of advice here...I'd stick with Hoyo de Monterrey, see how you get on with them - and keep a coke and some chocolate near by for any dizzyness, we all go through it!

I would say hoyo to get things going. Epi 2 or PR would do just the job!

Cheers for the welcome and the advice guys! Looking to take a wander into the city centre tomorrow, theres a few cigar shops around here so I figure I may as well check them out instead of relying online (though I'm aware Im likely to end up spending more once faced with everything in front of me! ).

Hi and welcome to cigar nutty land - best advice I can give is start mild and work your way up until you find something you really like. For me a Hoyo Epi No 2 is hard to beat, but now and then I like to dabble in the stronger sticks
