Good afternoon everybody,

Just a quick introduction. I have been smoking cigars on a very infrequent and erratic basis for the last 7 years more or less. I say smoking cigars, I've only really smoked Cohiba Siglo IV up until now, and only ever bought cigars one at a time for things like birthdays and New Year's Eve. Have also smoked a Montecristo, but can't recall which one.

I am here, really, to find out more about cigar smoking and set myself on the right track to get into it on a more regular basis as I have always enjoyed the Cohibas. Any tips on where to start in terms of what cigars to get first? Need to get a humidor too, obviously. Is it worth going for one of the sampler packs that I have seen on the website? In other words, help!

As a newbie I have to say that I haven't been too impressed with the sampler packs I have got, I have found it much more interesting buying individual ones that I thought looked good or interesting. I would also suggest going into a specialist shop if you get the chance, in my experience the staff are always helpful and talk you through the various options

Enjoy - the best thing I have found about smoking cigars is the variety out there so just trying as many different sizes, shapes and blends as you can!

For some, Cohiba's only start to hit the spot after a few years of cigar smoking so you've a fine palate

I reckon you can't beat doing your homework...explore sites such as http://www.cigars-review.org/ and http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/ to get a general consensus on how cigars smoke. I totally agree with Sheppsea...not a fan of samplers; make up your own with individual cigars you're researched. Maybe start with brands such as Ramon Allones, Trinidad and Partagas as they tend towards the medium to full bodied.

In terms of Humidors; I'd explore the options via the Cgars Link at the top of the page; they often have clearance items at reasonable prices, or use the info to price-compare across the web.

You could have a look in the humidor and cigar accessories area at the "show you mine if you show me yours" thread. There are loads of humidor photos to browse and get inspiration from. Be warned its very addictive!!!

Welcome and excellent idea of putting things in right place and I am assuming you got your butane lighter and cutter sorted already?
Cohibas are delight but as a newbie, it's hard to ignore samplers. Personally I would say samplers are not bad, they give you experience but don't just go for random sampler, go for one which has something you want to try or something you are interested in and others can be random experiment. Normally I have seen cigars in samplers to be of the same category so if there are couple of them you like in a sampler then other will be of the same range kind of!

I forgot to say about humidors! If you're not bothered about presentation you could consider building a tupperdor, its a much cheaper option (personally I like havig them on display for everyone to see so have never made one but it seems really simple) - a quick search on the forums will give you all the details you need.

Personally I like Adorini Humidors, they are always well made, look great and keep humidity really well, but I'm by no means an expert! 😊 There are numerous websites out there - my first point of call is normally Humidor Discount, but there are plenty of other options.
