    Hello there guys and girls!

Im new to this whole game of cigars BUT love them!

Iv recently come back from cuba and have to say, best holiday of my life!

Iv been sampling the best cigars over there and loved the many brands they had on offer.

Iv just bought myself a second hand humidifier off ebay BUT had to travel so I could see it before handing cash over.

It looks mint! Glass top, top try layer and bottom compartment.

He said he hasnt used it for a while and the analog dial said 55-60%. I recharged the humidor device with distilled water and left it over night. Now it says 70% perfect!
    My question is this....?
Would I need to spray a light mist of distilled water in the humidor as some people said it could still be dry inside and dry the cigars out.

Thankyou for taking time in reading, but really need your pro advice...

First welcome to the Hoby and the forum I hope you enjoy both.

Don't wet the wood as it can cause warping.

Yes the inside will still be dry just leave it at 70 for 2-3 days to let the cedar absorb the moisture.

I would recommend picking up a digital hygrometer as the analogue are notoriously inaccurate.

Also what hydration media are you using, of it's a foam these can cause mould problems and I would think of switching out with some beads, puck beads at cgars.com or Hearfelt from heartfelt industries.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

Lo mate, welcome along. Sounds like you had a good holiday, bring any sticks back?

Post some pics of the humi, we like pics round here
Sounds like you are good to go, but you may want to pick up a digital hygrometer to check the analogue one. Or if its removable, do a salt test to check its accuracy. Or both!

I didn't spray my humi, just let it sit for a week at stable humidity and then stacked the cigars in. Not had any problems to date

Wow, thankyou sooo much for the quick response!
Yes cuba is the best place iv gone to in my life, having a fat cuban while driving a speed boat is something iv never dreamt of lol.

Il take some pics of the humidor when I get back home, im just at work but got my mind on this forum than anything else.

I bought some Partagas cigars for my wedding next year but saw there was BIGGER to have, not sure on length (maybe 5inch, 38 gauge) but not as big as Punch coronas (in green tube)

Whats this salt test what iv read about? Not sure what this does?

Il look into getting some beads, but at the mo iv got a round disc shaped thing which looks like mesh through it and could have sponge inside but not sure how to rip it open.

So are you guys saying that my cigars should be fine now that humidity is fine?
Il look into getting a digital one.

Can I just say, in cuba cigars (even the best) are cheap.
I look in England and MY GOD! How expensive!!!!!!

It would be cheaper going to cuba and back!
But you can only bring back 50 cigars and 1 bottle of rum.

Salt test, take some table salt and put it in a bottle cap, add a couple of drops of water so the salt is damp.

Put this with your hygrometer in a ziplock bag for several hours and your hygrometer should read 75%.

As to buying cigars in the Uk, most people buy as many as they can every time they go abroad and just top up from the UK.

I have used de-ionised water on my beads for some time without any problems. De-ionised water is only very slightly less pure than distilled. If you work in a chemistry lab this slight difference in purity might matter, but for the purpose of cigar storage it shouldn't make any difference. Plus de-ionised is cheaper and easier to get hold of.
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You sounds like you are well on your way.

If you like partagas then the partagas short would make a nice alternative to what you have.

Congrats on getting hitched as well.
