Hi All, just registered after browsing for a couple of days. Nice forum, lots of good info!

I picked up a couple of cigars on impulse last week when I was in London and spotted 'Smokers Paradise' on Threadneedle street. Tiny place but packed with nice cigars and the owner was very helpful. Not smoked anything for years, but did enjoy a Villager with my dad every now and then.

Been browsing over at Cgars and I think I've identified them. The first one was a Chinchalero, not sure if it was a Perla or a Picadillos, enjoyed it though. 2nd was a Charatan Demi Tasse i believe, also enjoyed it. Both were a little more expensive in the shop than listed on the web site, but that's to be expected these days I guess. Will defiantly be going back on my next trip to London in a couple of months!

Keen to try some proper Cuban's now though for comparison.

I'd also like recommendations for a short smoke, around 10 minutes?

    Cheers,
    James

    Welcome to the forum!

My advice for a short smoke would be the Clubs (Monte or Cohiba)

They are machine made, but with good quality tobacco. There are also the mini's but I found them a lot harsher, and dangerously close to cigarettes.

It's worth having a look through the reviews section. Lots of guys on here who know their stuff.

Hello and welcome. I second Adam's suggestion - the Clubs and Puritos make for a good quick smoke and they're cheap compared to hand made Cuban cigars. But I reckon you should also try at least a couple of proper hand made cigars - they might not be cheap, but you won't find a better smoke. If you're looking for something with a short smoking time then I would recommend that you try a panatela or a demi tasse. These are slim cigars that are ideal for a brief burst of Cuban goodness.
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.

Hello and welcome, imho you need longer than 10 mins to enjoy a quality smoke. Minis which I have tried just don't cut it. cuban or not they are harsh and just end up bitter and for the price of a pack you can enjoy 1 class smoke. Worth it me thinks....

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

Id suggest cigarettes for a quick smoke. Marlboro Red have a definite transition of flavour from tobacco to a nice harsh tobacco.

Thanks for the input chaps, much appreciated.

Point taken on the short smoke thing. Will probably try a pack of the clubs but don't worry, I'm not planning to miss out on the good stuff!

Any recommendations for 3 or 4 good cigars to try that won't break the bank?

I've also just found this, was given to me by a customer last year after a holiday in Cuba

Has that RyJ been kept in a humidified environment? If not I would stick it in a humidor or humi-pouch for a good few weeks before trying to smoke it (a bone dry cigar is really not very nice). As for cigars that won't break the bank and that don't take hours to smoke, I would recommend (in no particular order) Montecristo No. 5s, Bolivar Bonitas, Trinidad Reyes, Partagas Shorts, Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas....I could go on for ages but that should be enough to get you started.

Looks like I'm going to have quite a shopping list!

No the RyJ has just been sat on my desk in its tube so sounds like it will need some TLC before I spark it up. Will pick up a pouch, or maybe a travel humi as I don't have anywhere to put a proper one.
