I too have been to Cuba

Hello all, here I sit, having gone to Cuba, and did the tourist 'thing' I bought 2 x boxes of Cuba's best.

I'm left with 2 x Part used boxes: 22 x Cohiba Esplendidos 172mm and 23 x Romeo Y Julieta Churchill (in Tubes) 152mm.

I'll come straight out with it, I know this will be heresy on here, But I was not that taken with smoking tehm, so it's been a case of "Pearls to swine" for me. However, I'm going to give it one more go, so...

These have not been in a Humidor ever, not since when I bought them in 2002. So, with no humidor, as a result will they be "had it" or can they be rescued?

Welcome along, first thing is the cohiba is the most faked cigar on the planet if it was purchased anywhere in Cuba apart from a casa de habano or factory shop you've been conned and should try a legitimate stick to see if you enjoy a real Cuban.

Second is that there is probably no saving of your cigars, your only shot is to very slowly increase there stored relative humidity over the course of weeks/months until in a smokable condition.

I personally would recommend looking at cgars.com for a sampler to see if you enjoy the hobby get a humi pouch or tuperdore( home made humi using a tuperware)

You should be able to rescue a cigar that has been left out for a few days or even weeks. But I'm pretty sure that a cigar that has been drying out for 10 years is going to be utterly ruined.

I got these from the government shop, the genuine thing with receipt - I don't want to sell tehm. My brother has always coveted tehm. I had not realised, I'd always thought wait long enough, and a humidor would always rejuvenate them. Am I wrong?

So, if I have it right, there's no saving them now? Oh dear.

I was just giving him the benefit of the doubt, he would get no interest if he was going to sell them here anyway.

Probably something like several months work for a one in a hundred chance of saving them.

I bought these as a tourist on a wave of pretension, tried one of each, went green, but my brother loved tehm.My thinking?, like a good port I could leave them. So, left them in the cupboard, forgetting abouut them. Sounds like I've been a bit of a tool!

Actually, not necessarily if you live in a relatively wet area - in the countryside. If the relative humidity in the house is around 60%, and the temperature stable, they're worth a try.
But if the cigars stayed in a central-heated flat, in a RH about 40%, they probably have lost all their oils.

I like my central heating. Perhaps ruined. Tell you what I'll do. I'm in Beds, Dunstable UK. Free to collector for anyone on here with suficient posts. I'll leave it to the admin/ modualtor on here to decide who gets them. I would liek them to go to soemone who has the knowledge to rescue them and enjoy tehm. No good to me!

Occurs to me, so a tube after ten years does not protect the Romeo Y Juls?
