  • Hello from London

    Hi guys ,

just found this site after checking out some reviews and had a good read through. Anyways, ive recently been hit with the cigar bug and cant seem to get enough. This hobby seems to have consumed me , and thought id post a bit about my self on here and try to get some advise for the future.

So, im 35 know and have been smoking cigars on off for about 10 years or so. You would think id know a little about the subject, but the truth is ive always smoked my dads stash and he has only ever smoked the cohiba brand. He has always been gifted these and as a result has never even been to a cigar shop and as far as i know he doesnt even know that any other brands exist lol.

So i basically have smoked a whole bunch of siglo's and thats about as far as ive got. Until recently ive been mistreating and disrispecting the act of cigar smoking ( biting ends of, docking cigars half way etc.. ) and basically failing to realise the rewards that come with this hobby.

Its been about 3 months now since i snagged a siglo 1 and sat at home and smoked one alone ( might i add for the first time) and had a chance to really appreciate the cigar. That short break was one one of the best experiences i've had in a long time. No wife, no kids even the dogs ran of and hid . Since then i decided to broaden my range and try to explore what other wonderfull cigars the world had to offer. So off i popped to cgars branch in West Hampstead , where the clerk helped me pick out a few cigars and and talked me into buying a humidor to store them ( told myself i wouldnt , but then convinced my self, damn)

    Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos cigars - 1s
Hoyo Short Hoyo Piramides - Limited Edition 2011 -1s
    Montecristo No. 4 cigars - 1s
Montecristo No. 5 cigars - 1s - earthy woody smoke ,tightish draw, smooth and silky tasting
    H.Upmann Half Corona - 1s -

Got through these and enjoyed them all except the half corona. It made me feel a bit sick and had a strange taste to it ( Not sure if thats right but, after I lit it , I immediatly wanted to put it down ). So now im on a mission to explore as many cigars as i can afford and after sifting through countless pages my next selection will be this :

    Trinidad Reyes cigars - 1
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 1 cigars - 1s
El Rey del Mundo Petit Coronas cigars - 1s
Por Larranaga Petit Coronas cigars - 1
Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2 cigars -1s

Montecristo Petit Edmundo cigars - 1s

I have no preference for size , but with 4 kids, 2 dogs and a wife , its hard to get 2 hours alone, so small formats give me enough time to enjoy them. Still like to keep a few biggies in the humidor for when i have the time , and also to experiment with aged cigars as ive heard so many good things about them.

So i rambled enough. My journey starts now and am really looking forward to it and hope to make many posts in this forum. Thanks for listening guys.

Welcome Sam, good place here your first post does look a bit like a huge advert though, though they are the sponsor so can't complain!

Don't really say what you like/dislike in a cigar but some good choices so far, but as I say to everyone, give the Hoyo De Monterey Petit Robusto a chance, especially if you like a nice smooth creamy cigar, often with some chocolate thrown in for good measure, enjoy

      Advert - lol

I guess it does mate. I copied it out of notepad . Might edit it now u said that.
Thanks for the robusto tip , ill put it on the list if pounds permit. I keep having to whittle the list down.

As for likes, im so used to the creamy sweetish flavour but I genereally like evrything , if that makes sense. Out of the first list, I liked them all except the H uppman hc, which made me feel a little sick. It was like smoking old leather . Not sure if i got a bad one , but im willing to give it another go concidering the price. I am generally easily pleased so im trying to figure out what i dont like and go from there.

Im a heavy smoker also, so i am fond of the nicotine kick so was concidering something a little stronger to see how i would fare. My to 'get list' will focus an smaller, mild/medium falovours so i can train my palatte slowly. Then move towards a stronger taste.

Enough typing now, ill save it for another section.

Hi Sam and welcome to the forum.

Reyes are excellent, as is the HdM Petit Robusto (bonus being they smoke great straight off).

If you like a strong cigar then Bolivar is a good brand to try, Royal Corona, Belicosos Finos and Gold Medals are my favourites.

A small strong smoke that comes to mind is a Partagas Short.

If you want to sample a very heavy nicotine hitting cigar try a non cuban Cain 654T - made with straight ligero leaf it can literally blow your head off!

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

As said before Bolivar is a good brand for powerful cigars. You might want to try out a Partagas short for a full flavoured 45 minute smoke. I found the Rafael Gonzales petit corona I smoked recently to have a very strong nicotine kick.

10 years of smoking free Cohibas, you really don't know your luck do you?

I'd go with a tupperdor if you haven't bought your humidor yet. A tupperware box with humidity beads is the perfect stress free method of storing your precious smokes.

              Welcome.

                    Hi and Welcome Sam.

The Upmann Half Coronas really are disgusting aren't they.

A tip for a man with a wife a brood and a menagerie. Buy a box of ERdM Demi Tasse and say 5 singles of the same. When time's short you can't beat them, in fact not many vitola beat them even when time's long!

The singles you smoke. The box you squirrel away!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
