I talked to Patrick from H&F at lunchtime. He was quite keen. He thought the best way to handle it was to work with his main Birmingham retailer, Hollinsworths, so he will approach them and come back to me. On the auction front, last year some of the lots were not that expensive and hardly any premium over today's Cuban cigars.

If we go vintage, the empty box after the split could be some form of raffle prize?
Other than that a bring your own and share could be good?
I have a sampler of the full range of ave maria and psd4's that could easily find their way there.

Just a quick addition to the proceedings, I would like to propose a blind tasting session. For a token payment of ?1 per cigar (we have to make a charge otherwise, as a retailer of tabacco, we are breaking the law), we will smoke and score 3 different cigars. All 3 cigars will be highly regarded smokes and we can have a little fun smoking and rating them. The bands will be removed and this should be an interesting twist to the event. I will get H&F and other distributors to fund some of this and I will fund the balance: its a good way for me to give back the profit I might make by selling you guys drinks all evening! The cigars would have a minimum combined retail of say ?50.

That sounds like a brilliant and entertaining idea! You've certainly got me sold (I was sold anyway if I'm honest).

Still not sure about whether I can make the date though - may be a couple of weeks before I know as I'm seeing a consultant about my dodgy knee and he keeps some rather strange (and very limited) hours. If I'm free then I shall definitely make the short trip up to Brum.
