  • Beer and cigars, you know that could work...

Wonderful evening in prospect at an interesting new London cigar venue in Holborn on the 10th July.
Going to see if beer and cigars go together, I am planning to go, purely in the interests of scientific research you understand, is anyone going to join me?
    Tickets going fast.

Citra hops are very nice, I tried getting hold of some for homebrew but all the suppliers I tried were completely out of stock.

Unfortunately I can't make it to London for that Nic, but I think you're right, this research needs to be done.

My preliminary studies have shown that beer can be an excellent match for a cigar...

Any of the Belgian beers available in the UK match Cubans, just needs a little tasting to figure out which is ideal. Leffe Bruin goes with any of the RA's, Duvell with Hoyo's, Leffe Blonde or Corsendonk Blonde Party's & Stella will cover everything except Cohiba IMHO.

Love Leffe Blond, Franziscana and Duval. Waitrose do an own brand Belgian Blond which is good too. Oh hell I just love beer.

Sam smith's old brewery bitter went well with a punch Petit coronations...
And their stout seemed to match an h.upmann half corona....

I did a batch of lager last time and dry hopped for the last 7 days of the fermenting process; was really nice. I think the citra hops would suit that perfectly.

Yeah that's screaming out refreshing summer beer to me.

Just one note with Citra, it can quickly become overpowering. Use less hops than you think you need and allow it to rest in the bottle for longer than you think it needs.

That's good advice; I like to bottle condition for about 3 months with one or two being tested at 4 & 8 weeks.

My next batch is going to be a stout, I'm tempted to brew it with a touch of black treacle.
