Smoked a wide Churchill while playing baseball with the kids in the park on a beautiful spring bank holiday day.

I know feelings are mixed about these cigars but for me they are a really great smoke, this was lovely and loose, a really great draw on it and consistently tasty.

        Hi Alex,

I was expecting it to be "THAT" good... but it didn't blow me away, if anything it's pint sized chum yesterday was a more enjoyable smoke! I'll have to find some time for another one, perhaps while I'm a bit more relaxed... heck it might just have been my slightly uneducated palate!

that's the year mine are from, and my sentiments are exactly the same!!! i can clearly remember my face hurt from smiling so much as i sat out in the garden, during a lull in the snow!! from the cold draw, i new it was gonna be special and by the time i burnt my lip after nubbing it on a cocktail stick, all was confirmed, it was fantastic!!! until i can afford a box, i will be keeping the rest i have for xmas day smokes for years to come!!!

              all the best,

Mine have got a couple more years on them than that, 05's if memory serves... the draw on mine was possibly a touch on the firm side.

i would've expected a 7ry old sir winston to be amazing....... by all accounts, h upmann are fantastic agers!!! i certainly would've thought the sir winston would've come out on top against an hdm petite robusto!!! ah well will, better luck next time........

oh, as a further suggestion, next time tesco/asda/sainsbury/etc are doing good offers on champagne (tesco regularly does half price offers), get a bottle in and reserve it solely to have with a sir winston!!! it makes for a wonderful, joyous occasion and you'll see, the problems of the world dissolve away over the course of 1.5-2 hrs!!!

                  all the best,

                  alex

I think it is important to remember that the general opinion is that '08 was a fantastic year for CC's. I would not be surprised if an '08 SirW out smoked an '05 (which is not a notable year).

Good point Monkey66, a recent good year cigar can beat an aged duffer, just the same as wines.

Now that sounds like my kind of suggestion... I'll be flaming another of these Sir Winnies in the near future to see how it goes again. I've little doubt that on any given day the smoking experience could well be vastly different.

It was far from a bad smoke... just that I was expecting it to be one of those "wow" cigars. Interesting that the more humble Petit Robusto was the more enjoyable that day...

'wow' is an interesting commodity, sometimes it is us as much as the stick however the year can easily be the difference between 'good' and 'wow'. I have had a lot of '08 wows.

I certainly get what you are saying... some of it must come down to expectation. I was expecting the Sir Winnie to be good... last weekend I had my first Escudos which I wasn't expecting amazing things from yet it was absolutely lovely - one of the best smokes I've had!
