  • Sunday 6th February

Well, this is more likely going to be Monday in the early morning, but I shall class it as today. A couple of my mates have convinced me to host a Superbowl party tonight... Now, I quite like American Football, but not quite as much as these guys (and I'd rather have done if for the 6N opener on Friday), that's by the bye though.

Was thinking, as a punishment for requisitioning my living room until 3am, that I would smoke a fine cigar (hopefully that will annoy them a bit - it'll annoy me too mind, I hate waiting three days for the smell to disappear). But should I go for something Cuban (got a RASS that might be up to the task), or, to celebrate the American nature of the event, something non-Cuban (a Cain Maduro perhaps)?

A Cohiba Siglo VI and a nice dram of Glenmorangie. Nice way to end a Sunday evening before going back to the drudgery of work!

                  Tonight.

Umm. A mighty fine '07 Cohiba Secreto with a glass of Ron Zacapa Solera Gran Reserva 23 while watching Americano Soccer....known as the Super Bowl!

Went with a Cohiba Robusto for the Superbowl - decent cigar, had a couple now, but none have made me think they're worth the cost. Lots of "chips 'n dips" and a shed-load of pizza. Settling in the the rest of the match. Champagne on ice incase the Packers win (not a Packers fan per se, I have money on them though...) Fingers crossed.

An '01 Upmann No2 (thanks Eddie). Big and strong, complex flavours. Not as refined as I had anticipated, probably best describes as an old-school cuban.

To add to the debate I think a 10 year old Monte 2 may well be better than this example.

For some reason I have never found an affinity with the Upmann No 2, flav flat to me & it never holds my interest. Maybe I have been unfortunate in the few I have smoked but never felt the urge to pay for more.
The Dippy No2 is totally different & makes a nice change from the Monte but I would expect a nicely aged Monte to beat the other two hands down for flav (although they did go through a poor quality control issue sometime ago, they are back on top these days).
