In my role as cigars and spirits officer for my real ale society, I gathered a group of members together for an evening of spirits and cocktails at the Plymouth Gin distillery, shortly followed by some Alonso Menendez No10s... Still being received very well.
Excellent evening, finished with some very good live music.

Finally got to celibrate my birthday; had a Cohiba Piramide 2006. Heard various things about these over the yrs & opinions have been mixed, but after waiting 4yrs to smoke it, I was very pleasently surprised. I had a pair both from different boxes & the shade on one was noticably darker than the other. I cose the lighter & gave the darker to my Belgian mate.
The very first puff was WOW! It's with instant overwhelming flavour like that, you can appreciate how the offical tasters manage with only 6 puffs to make a review. It really was head on powerful Cohiba bean flavours & just got better, all the way down to below the second band.
I paid about E23 each for these in Belgie, about the same as an Esplendio at the time. I don't often say it but this was definately worth the Cohiba label mark up & of course I was left wishing I had a few more salted away.
Once the guests departed & wife went upstairs, I sneaked down to have a Cohiba Robusto that had been in my Humi for almost as long. This was also spot on & although probably an over indulgence after such a perfect piramide, the several hr gap & the fine quality of the robusto meant it managed to stand on it's own merits just fine.
I don't smoke Cohibas very often, they are definately a special occasion smoke for me but these fitted the bill pefectly. The accompanying Irish whiskey, was a gift from Belgian mate & made a great match for the Cohibas, whick I always think deserve a fine spirit & although I am happy to smoke most other Havana's with Belgian beers, I haven't found one yet to do justice to a Cohiba.Last edited by Simon Bolivar; 13-12-2010, 04:43 PM.Simon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.
