After a good day's fishing, (see UKCF Angling page), I got home in time to have a decent smoke before dinner.
I pulled out my 'oldest' cigar, bought at auction as a 1970's R&J CH. Of course no way of proving that, besides it being post 2008 tube & label change. I have had a few '90's examples were that the gold band was tarnished & this was perfect.
However, the first half was perfect. Really enjoyable, good amount of smoke, perfect draw. I punched it to start but somewhere around 60% in, I noted a strong tarry taste. Checking, I could see the black tar build up so I cut, twice to the rim of the wrapper to get clear of it.
I smoked it to the band nut wasn't as good, still had a tarry tinge & even my cutter was stained with it.
I have had tar from known vintage cigars but always think of it as a fresher cigar problem? Any thoughts?
