In the latter 20thCentury, these were the biggest selling Cuban's & were widely available, e.g. restaurants, clubs, even more upmarket pubs. I bought several boxes over my first few yrs & really enjoyed them. Once I started trying other Havanas I realised that the Monte profile was 'rather middle of the road' & therefore a good entry point but there where others I enjoyed more. Then for a decade I didn't smoke the No4 & then Moondancer sent me a few & I enjoyed everyone. I think the consistency has improved now, being the biggest sell prev meant high volume & therefore the quality of the tobacco & rollers certainly suffered.
R&J Short Churchill or cheaper vitolas like the Tubos No3 would be worth trying similar strength & a brand I also considered to be middle of the road in the Marca's but worth enjoying this area before expanding into the fuller flav/ larger cigars IMHO. As a firm fav Hoyo's are a delight when aged (difficult for a newbie to find I know) but should you get around in due course, to attending a herf you may be luckily enough to be offered one.
thanks for the info mate.. I think a good couple months minimum in your own humidor helps.. I guess that’s where most first time smokers go wrong.
I have got a nice collection of singles now and some boxes which I am aging.. slowly getting around to trying more and more but unfortunately Uk prices are prohibitive and stocks everywhere are low
Definitely looking forward to a meet up at some point.. not really got any mates who enjoy cigars so usually just on my own
