Funny how everyone is different. I love the especial and also a big fan of all the other Hoyos but I've never really been wowed by the Epi 1 or 2. I want to love them but the examples I've had have never had for me what other people seem to see. Is it inconsistencies or just different palates?

Whereas for me the 2 is definitely the stand out, other than finding an aged box of one of the others I’d only purchase the 2s myself.

I’ve gone through around a dozen Epi 2’s and I’m yet to be wowed at all. The few I have left are buried deep in the back of the Humidor with no plans of touching them for a few years and see how they are. Glad I’m not alone as everyone seems to love them

I know it comes across as ageist or snobbish but Hoyo's really do come into their own 5yrs+. I am currently smoking from my 50cab 2005, that I picked up from Christophe in Brugge in June 2017. That day I smoked my last 2004's from a 25cab, that I bought in 2006. I have since bought a cab from 2008 & 2 from 2018, so I am set for fine vintage Epi's for a very long time

Not ageist or snobbish at all Simon. I'd agree with you; the hoyos I'm enjoying now are all about 7yrs + and they definitely change around the 5 year mark. Everyone always talks about epi 2's smoking well young and that's what I've never understood.

Cheers, glad it's not just me that notices the difference. To be fair it is a common view amongst those who actually take the trouble to age or buy vintage Hoyo's.

Only experience I've had is a Hoyo Petit Robusto. I've had one that was fresh and it was horrible, possibly the worst cigar I've had yet. A few weeks later I had one with around 5 years on it, it was one of the best smokes I've had yet. Amazing how much a cigar can change with some time.

Didn't say I was wowed. The only sticks I recall being wowed by were some of the first qdo 54s I had, the Connie a, and some dark wrappered nc lanceros. But my memory isn't great!
